Every stitch conceals a secret...

A big part of this collection was the idea of letting go of some things I had been holding onto that I felt were holding me back. I remembered reading about how Alexander McQueen famously claimed to have written a message into the lining of a jacket for Prince Charles. So I decided to take a page out of McQueen’s book and wrote my these “secrets” inside the garments and then wrote affirmations to help me let go.

Some of those things included:
- perfectionism
- sexual assaults
- grudges
- false allegations
- my own mistakes
- childhood trauma
- unhealthy relationships
- fears and limiting beliefs of myself
- unhealthy habits (disordered eating, toxic behaviors, etc)

Some of the affirmations I used:
- I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.
- I’m proud of my strength to walk away from what doesn’t deserve me.
- I trust that everything in my life is happening for a reason.
- I realize that my mistakes don’t define me. How I react to them and whether I choose to learn from them are what define me.
- I embrace all of the dark emotions I feel and release them with ease.
- I am nourishing my body by not restricting it.
- It’s never too late. No matter what’s happened to you, you can always begin again.
- I know this situation is hard, but I am determined to rise above it.
- I am ready to start a new chapter in my life.
- I am stronger than my problems.
- I forgive myself for past mistakes and learn from them.
- I embrace the shadows of my soul.
- I am unphased by the opinions of others. I know who I am.
- I honor and respect my body.
- I will not let my thoughts control the way that I feel.
- I release myself from the versions of me I created to survive.
- I am continually evolving into a stronger version of myself.
