Hilife 20yrs. Flashback:
Throne (The Bowlriding Co.) was born in 1993. It was basically an experiment for me, straying away from local island graphics and Hawaiian lifestyle.
It was sold out of the trunks of cars and out of backpacks of friends attending the University of Hawaii at the time, we did some product shows that were held at UH’s campus center. I got to meet some amazing designers and owners that became popular labels: Russ’s “Vertical Junkies” Alika’s “Soljah”, and a fellow co-worker, Tony Moniz’s “Faith Riding Co.” all became staple clothing lines in Hawaii’s new movement. I did a few parties, had some opportunities to sell the tshirts and caps in surfshops and basically just had fun.
It was my first introduction into becoming an entrepreneur and brand manager for my own stuffs. Mahalo’s to Winfred Ho at Hocus Pocus screen printing who helped me launch the brand with production, and countless friends who supported me during those times. Special thank you to Jane for letting me use
her son’s baby picture of him toilet training. “Evan” became our first ambassador and “official team rider” for our company. What fun times the 90’s were…
