I do love some sweet boots but have always been hesitant to try to learn knowing how much time and labor go into it without the big industrial machines that can make short work of some real lengthy processes. Intimidation be damned, I dove into old books this winter written over 150 years ago on how to make boots by hand. Turns out, Cordwaining is the trade of boots and shoe making, a cobbler resoles and fixes footwear..... now you know this bit of trivia as well....
It's been 100% worthy of the intimidation factor, my hands are now covered in odd callouses and scabs, but the satisfaction and pride I've gained was worth it. I've got some awesome boots, a new respect for more old trades, and most of all the confidence to keep pushing myself to see where creativity can go.
About 60 hours to make a pair right now, so don't think I could find customers to pay for that kind of time for boots but hey, Check my cool booots!!!
