in my DELUXE Hand Sewn Shirt class, you’ll learn how to take a simple boxy top pattern and hack it into a “deluxe” shirt with collar, popover button placket, yoke, cuffs, pockets, shaped hem and any other details you’d like to add! then we’ll sew our shirts together, with just a needle and thread and our own two hands. 👕

Hand Sew A Shirt at begins March 1!! in 3 weekly classes, you will learn how to sew 4 kinds of seams, and 4 edge finishes, and in the process sew a real shirt (!) all by hand with just a needle and thread. now you can sew on planes, trains and automobiles, not to mention on a dock, in a park, or on the couch…

i can hardly believe it, but in April i’m heading to my home state of Ohio to teach at Folk Art Quilts! it’s my 5-day Design (and MAKE!) Your Own Wardrobe, and we’ll be drafting the 3 patterns shown here: my infamous (aka Boxy Top/Drapy Tunic), Lounge Pants and a button-down Shirt or Jacket!

Sue is the Queen of embellishment, so my idea is to bring the art or pattern drafting and garment sewing to her studio, as a way to create “blank canvas” clothing that can later be embroidered, appliquéd, beaded or whatever one’s heart desires!

we will be focused on the garments for this class, but Sue offers workshops, videos and ALL the gorgeous supplies to help you learn how to embellish. or, check out my Artful Garment year-long virtual workshop, now open for registration. and you know i’ll bring all my samples to show and tell!
