There’s a part of my work history that I haven’t talked about much on here.
Most of you know me as the person behind the kitchen towels and note cards you see around here. But long before Mississippi Mae, when I was in my 20s, I spent 8 years working in a gift shop.
And yes, that’s me in the photo. 😂
This was taken in 2007 in a little shop-within-the-shop where I was responsible for the buying. I chose the products we carried in this area and got firsthand experience thinking about what would sell, what worked together, and what customers would actually want to buy.
I also spent several years in management and helped with buying and merchandising for the much larger gift shop, working alongside the owner and other managers.
Fast forward quite a few years, and I eventually found myself on the opposite side of that buying decision.
Mississippi Mae began selling wholesale to retail stores across the country. Wholesale eventually became the biggest part of my business, and in just a two-year period, I sold more than 10,000 kitchen towels to retailers.
So I’ve had the unusual experience of being both the person deciding what to buy AND the person trying to get their products bought.
And that’s what led me to something new I’ve been working on.
I’m now offering Faire Buyer Audits.
If you sell wholesale on Faire, I’ll shop your storefront the way I would have as a retail buyer. I’ll look at things like your opening and reorder minimums, MOQs, pricing, assortment, product listings, photos, packaging and merchandising. I’ll also tell you where I think a buyer may hesitate.
Then I’ll send you a personalized PDF showing what’s working, what I’d change, and what I’d prioritize first.
This isn’t an automated report or generic checklist. I’m personally reviewing your shop through the eyes of someone who’s been on both sides of the buying process.
I’ll put the details in the comments if you’d like me to take a look at your shop. ❤️
