My name is Kaity Rathman, and I design and make women’s clothing for Kaity Rathman Designs. I live in Lincoln, Nebraska right next door to the capitol. I absolutely love colors, trends, textures, and art. My looks are trendy and glamorous for the modern day woman. The garments I create are ideal for parties, cocktails, and trendy venues or for the fashion forward woman who likes to push the envelo
pe. Some of my looks range from couture evening wear to edgy street wear. My studio is a creative atmosphere in my two bedroom apartment. My inspiration comes from architecture, organics, and textures. My sketch books are loaded with magazine clippings of interesting silhouettes, imagery, artwork, and fabric swatches. I love to scout fabric swatches in store, but ultimately I can’t get enough Mood Fabric swatches in the mail! I love to touch and feel the fabric as inspiration for my draping or pattern work. Most of my designs start as sketches and others come from draping on a dress form. Often times a sketch will turn out differently once I’ve started the pattern work process as I make decisions and find creative solutions for ideas. I do all of my own draping, pattern work, cutting, and sewing on my own. One day I hope to have my own company to help me with this long process! As of right now my works are shown on runways in Lincoln, Omaha, Kansas City, and soon New York. I am currently selling my work on Etsy but hope to find the opportunity to sell in boutiques or larger on-line retailers. I hope to one day see my work sold all around the world with my own brand in stores. I love my craft because it lets me express myself creatively and I love to see my works come to life on the real human body. I’m addicted to it and I am always looking forward to putting together my next collection.
