I had a deep yearning for nature like jungles and forests as a kid. Northern California felt like it gave me both with its coastal redwood forests. The first time I saw these fuzzy hay stalks I was immediately drawn to them. Spotted them around mt tam going north. I was 20 and it felt like magic. We didn’t have those in east la! I pulled over and tried to pull one out but you’ll know if you’ve ever tried that they don’t budge. I was making a slow and stoney drive up to drakes bay, alone with the top down in my convertible. I remember driving on an empty road lined with redwoods and pulling over to look up and stare. That up view of redwoods is imprinted in my brain. I must have stopped 20 times that day. This week I’ve been feeling especially nostalgic for Northern California and it’s tugging at my stomach non stop. Today I googled forest near me and Angeles forest came up, a wave of relief washed over me. Can’t wait to go with my family. (This pic is from 2021 in Bolinas on my birthday surf trip. I surfed in the rain and you can already imagine how beautiful so I’ll shut up about it)

One year ago 5 months post partum and convinced I’d never fit into my old Levi’s. So wrong! Don’t get down on your new body, it’s all temporary and there’s no point obsessing over it because there are some things you just can’t change. Wrinkles, lose skin, cellulite are all signs of being blessed with life.
