It’s Flieger Friday and I’ve got a special piece on loan which I am loving right now (thanks to the always charming ) being a 20mm lug width I immediately threw it onto one of our latest Contour straps and a lesser used colourway here, which I think absolutely rocks this neo-vintage IWC UTC Flieger.
Yes yes, I know it’s technically a TZC (Timezoner) but you won’t begrudge me bending the alliterative rules for the opportunity to have a UTC on UTC.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Swatch x AP might be far more experimental than anyone expected.

The teasers don’t feel like a conventional watch launch:
• 8 radial loops
• “ROYAL POP” typography
• lanyard-like forms
• modular “CLAC” audio

What if this isn’t a wristwatch at all?

Swatch has explored pendant-style watches before.
AP has already created Royal Oak pocket watches.

So could this be a modular Royal Oak-inspired pop object designed to hang from a lanyard or belt loop?

Honestly… that would make perfect sense.

So the previous image lacked contrast you said, so I’ve created a tonal shift in the dial to a deep, dark, desaturated green. Same “seafoam” direction but adding clarity and much more in keeping with a possible Rolex catalogue item. I have to say I think these greens really compliment the temperature of the RLX Titanium itself.

Thoughts on this revamp?

Fifty clasps. One standard.

Before anything leaves us, every single SpringLock clasp is checked by hand, opened, closed, aligned, and felt. Not just for function, but for precision.

We’re looking for the details most people will never consciously notice:
the smoothness of the arms
the snap of the closure
the alignment of the logo
the way each half meets, perfectly straight

Because the smallest components are often the ones you interact with the most.

These are heading out with a new batch of CTF straps for , and they carry the same expectation we hold for everything we make: if it’s in your hands, it has to feel right, even if you are going to bash it against your computer desk immediately.

No shortcuts. No exceptions.

At British Watchmakers Day I caught up with Adrian Barker from Bark & Jack

We ended up chatting about how these events feel less like formal watch shows and more like slightly chaotic family reunions. You have got the familiar faces, the people you actually came to see, and of course a few strange uncles thrown in for good measure

We also got into something that makes this community quite special, the level of trust. Brands are often showing pieces that are not even announced yet, sometimes under embargo, and just politely asking people not to take photos. Somehow, it works. It is all very civilised

Sadly, just as we were getting into the flow of it, my memory card decided it had had enough, so the video cuts off a bit abruptly. Not quite the ending we planned, but maybe fitting in its own way

At British Watchmakers Day I caught up with Lucy and Imogen from Paulin

As one of the organisers of Redbar Oxford, I have hosted Paulin before, so it was great to catch up again and have a proper chat in the middle of a very busy day

We spoke about their special edition for the event, which is not even a watch but a wall clock. It features a beautifully done screen printed dial, with layered colour and texture that really shows off what Paulin does best. It feels playful, design led, and a bit unexpected, which made it stand out on the day

Colour came up a lot in the conversation, as you would expect. It is such a big part of the brand’s identity, and they mentioned they would love to do an orange dial at some point, which feels like it would fit right in

We also touched on the roots of the brand and how it sits alongside anOrdain. Paulin feels a bit more bold and accessible, but still clearly shares that same creative DNA and attention to detail

I also asked what they see coming next for the industry, and they pointed to more high end complications becoming accessible, which could make things very interesting over the next few years

All in all, a fun catch up and a great energy around them all day
