LIFE UPDATE 🙏🔥 STILL HEALING, STILL LEARNING, STILL SEEKING JESUS
It’s been a little while, so I wanted to share an update on life lately. My family and I have been through a lot, and there have been some good moments, some hard moments, and some things I’m still trying to figure out.
HEALTH ❤️🩹
My health is slowly getting better! I’m still struggling with seizures and muscle spasms, but thankfully, they aren’t happening as often. It’s been a long road, and I’m grateful for the progress, even when it feels slow. One day at a time!
FAITH 🙏🔥
Something happened today that reminded me how God can use even the smallest things.
I posted some free mattresses on Facebook Marketplace, and other people had offered me $30 to screw the guy over who was coming to pick them up.
But I believe in the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. I told him that and shared Luke 6:31:
“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” — Luke 6:31 (KJV)
He told me that was really cool. He had just started reading his Bible, and we ended up talking about Jesus!
Sometimes we think sharing the Gospel means we have to stand in front of a crowd or preach a sermon. But most of the time, it’s as simple as doing the right thing when nobody expects you to and being willing to talk about Jesus when the opportunity comes.
We never know what someone else is going through or where they are in their walk with God. Sometimes all it takes is living out what we believe and letting God handle the rest. ❤️
FAMILY ❤️
Brendi and the kids are doing great! We had a fun fall break, and the kids had an awesome time camping together. Those are the moments I want to hold on to.
Life gets hard, but I’m grateful for my wife, our kids, and the memories we’re making together. Family is a blessing, and I don’t ever want to take those moments for granted.
GRIEF, RECOVERY, AND MY BIRTH FATHER 🖤
This is the part I’ve been struggling to put into words.
My birth father passed away last month, and he’s been on my mind a lot.
I don’t know if I’m struggling because I wish I had more time to know him, or because I feel like I understood parts of him that even he didn’t understand about himself.
He was a chameleon. He adjusted his personality to the people around him. I truly believe my sister Joanna and I were among the few people who really wanted to know who he was beneath all of that.
There’s something complicated about grieving someone while still trying to understand who they really were. I was fortunate enough to ask him the questions I had and begin making amends with him before he passed. I’m thankful I had that opportunity, even though losing him still hurts.
Then there’s the struggle with my recovery.
My dad left me his ma*****na pipe and some w**d as part of my inheritance. That pipe was one of his most treasured possessions. He had owned it since he was 14 years old, and it was something he had kept his entire life.
I didn’t use his pipe, but I did relapse.
I had six months clean following an earlier 366-day stretch of sobriety. And if you want to get technical, before that, I had three years completely clean from all substances—including caffeine and sugar—with a year between that stretch and my next period of recovery.
I’m sharing that because I want to be honest about my journey. Recovery has been a part of my life for years, and I know what it takes to fight for it. I also know what it feels like to stumble.
Part of me feels like I failed a test. Part of me wonders whether I’m being pulled toward the same generational demons I’ve seen cause so much pain.
I don’t want to carry those things forward. I don’t want to repeat the same cycles. And I don’t want my father’s struggles to become mine.
I love my dad, and I’m grieving him. But loving someone doesn’t mean I have to inherit their battles.
WHAT I’M LEARNING ❤️🩹
I’m learning that healing isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes we make progress, sometimes we struggle, and sometimes life brings things to the surface we weren’t expecting.
I’m learning that grief is complicated, recovery is a journey, and being honest about our struggles matters more than pretending we have everything together.
I want to break the cycles. I want to be a better husband, father, and man of God. I want my children to see a different legacy—one built on honesty, love, accountability, and Jesus.
I don’t have all the answers right now. I’m still processing, still healing, and still trying to understand what God is teaching me through all of this.
But I know I don’t want my past, my struggles, or the things passed down to me to determine my future.
AND THAT BRINGS ME TO JESUS-RAGS. 🙏🔥
This is exactly why Jesus-Rags exists.
We’re all broken in some way. We all have battles, burdens, regrets, and things we wish we could change. Some of us are fighting addiction. Some are grieving. Some are struggling with shame, fear, or wounds nobody else can see.
But we don’t have to clean ourselves up before we come to Jesus.
We bring Him the mess, the pain, the shame, the addiction, the grief, and the parts of ourselves we wish nobody could see.
JESUS ISN’T WAITING FOR US TO CLEAN UP OUR MESS. HE’S THE ONE WHO CAN WASH US CLEAN. 🙌🔥
“Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” — Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)
That’s the heart behind Jesus-Rags. We come to Him broken, and He meets us right where we are.
I’m not sharing this because I have everything figured out. I’m sharing it because I’m still walking this road, too.
If you’re struggling right now—with grief, addiction, family wounds, shame, or anything else—please know you aren’t alone. Your setbacks don’t have to define you, your past doesn’t have to dictate your future, and the battles passed down to you don’t have to be the battles you pass on.
We can choose a different path. We can surrender. We can seek Jesus, even when we don’t have all the answers.
I’m still here. Still fighting. Still learning to surrender. And still seeking Jesus.
FAITH OVER FEAR. JESUS OVER EVERYTHING. 🙏❤️🔥
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
If you’ve been through something similar, I’d love to hear your story. Sometimes being honest about our struggles is exactly what someone else needs to know they aren’t fighting alone.
