I’d normally be posting about surviving back to school or something, but after 12 years in the classroom, it’s time for a break. I’ve been pushing through burnout for some time now, and I was prepared to keep going until retirement! With our unjust public school closures and having two little ones, it just felt like the right time… but I still have a lot of teacher guilt and heartbreak over it.

Summer is not enough. Maternity leave is not enough. For a profession that must pour so much in supporting families, it feels like the least family friendly job. So many teachers leave the classroom to be present at home or bc of the cost of childcare that it’s almost expected?? And for the families that can’t? It’s hard as hell. My heart goes out to all the teachers preparing for a new school year. Especially the teachers who are trying to balance work, home, and family life during this season.

Anyways that’s what I’m up to 🙃 After packing up my classroom, I felt like I could finally enjoy and soak in the newborn days. It goes by too fast, and every coworker who has done the same in my position says 2 things: You will never regret staying home. The classroom will always be there ✌🏼

How are we already here?! Craziest and fastest school year ever 📦🎓🏫♥️ Yes, I had to pack up my classroom with my newborn...

One of my last days before maternity leave spent releasing butterflies with a little surprise sprinkle from my students 🥹🦋🧡✨

Being pregnant all school year is no walk in the park, but I’m feeling so much gratitude for these kids, this school, and making it to this butterfly release day! 🙌🏼 Bye bye butterflies!
