REMEMBER WHO IS RESPONSIBLE

Caring for the poor has always mattered to God.

But Scripture doesn’t just tell us that it should be done—
it tells us who is responsible.

From Deuteronomy to the words of Jesus, the pattern is clear:

• Individuals are commanded to give generously
• The church is called to care for those in need
• Government is tasked with justice—not provision

“You shall freely open your hand…” (Deut. 15:11)
“Remember the poor…” (Gal. 2:10)
“As you did it to one of the least of these… you did it to Me.” (Matt. 25:40)

Even early American leaders understood this.

Jefferson taught charity should be personal and intentional.
Washington instructed that none should go hungry if it could be prevented.
Franklin encouraged giving in a way that multiplies through others.

Why?

Because compassion isn’t meant to be outsourced—
it’s meant to be lived.

A strong nation isn’t built by systems alone…
but by people who choose to act.

REMEMBER.
Independence. Freedom. Liberty.

REMEMBER WHAT WE PLEDGE

After God delivered His people, they didn’t just celebrate freedom—
they made a covenant.

They pledged obedience… allegiance… faithfulness to the laws given by God.

“All that the LORD has spoken we will do.”

America followed a similar pattern.

Our Pledge of Allegiance was more than words—it reflected a nation rooted in unity, liberty, and justice… under a higher authority.

“Under God” wasn’t added casually—
it was a reminder:

Freedom has a foundation.

Leaders like Lincoln and Eisenhower recognized that liberty cannot stand apart from truth, and a nation cannot endure without acknowledging God.

Remove the foundation…
and the structure weakens.

But remember it—
and it endures.

One nation. Under God. Indivisible.

REMEMBER.
Independence. Freedom. Liberty.

REMEMBER MERCY AND JUSTICE

There was a time in America when justice did not end with a verdict.

Judges didn’t only pronounce sentence—
they spoke to the soul.

In capital trials, after declaring judgment, they would plead with the convicted to repent… to turn to God… to prepare for eternity.

Why?

Because they understood something we’ve largely forgotten:

Justice deals with the law—
but mercy deals with the heart.

From Joshua and Achan…
to early American courtrooms…
the pattern was clear:

Truth was spoken.
Sin was acknowledged.
And repentance was urged before it was too late.

One judge said it plainly:

“You have but a short time to live… seek a pardon from above.”

Another warned:

“You are soon to stand before the Judge Eternal…”

This wasn’t cruelty.
It was compassion.

Because a human judge can only sentence the body—
but God judges the soul.

A nation that separates justice from truth…
and law from God…
loses both.

If the foundation is forgotten, the structure will not stand.

REMEMBER.
Independence. Freedom. Liberty.

REMEMBER WHO SHAPED THE FOUNDATION

In early America, the law was not separated from truth—it was shaped by it.

Scripture was viewed as a complete guide for life, and those who studied it deeply—ministers—became some of the most influential voices in forming the nation.

They didn’t stay in the pulpit.

They stepped into history.

Clergy helped write state constitutions, served in Congress, guided public thought, and played a decisive role in securing the ratification of the U.S. Constitution.

In fact, many of the Founders were trained in theology—men who understood that law without moral foundation cannot stand.

As one observer noted:
“The patriotic clergy… were the soundest statesmen of the time.”

Why does this matter?

Because a nation’s strength is not just found in its laws—
but in the truth those laws are built upon.

When people wanted to understand the law, they often went to ministers… because truth and justice were rooted in God’s Word.

If the foundation is forgotten, the structure will not stand.

Independence. Freedom. Liberty.

REMEMBER YOUR DAILY CALLING

“What good have I done this day?”

John Quincy Adams lived by that question.

After decades of service—as diplomat, senator, president—he didn’t retire into comfort. Instead, he returned to Congress and spent his final years fighting injustice, even when it cost him popularity, peace, and personal ease.

Why?

Because he believed his life was not his own—it belonged to God and to the service of others.

He wrote that every person should examine themselves daily:

What good have I done?
What evil must I repent of?
What good can I do tomorrow—and for whom?

This wasn’t just reflection—it was action.

Adams followed the example of Christ, who “went about doing good” (Acts 10:38).

And so should we.

A nation is strengthened not just by its leaders—but by individuals who choose, daily, to do what is right.

REMEMBER.
Serve God. Serve others. Do good.

REMEMBER THE SPIRIT, NOT JUST THE LETTER

Legalism clings to the letter of the law but ignores its purpose—and every society faces that temptation.

Scripture reminds us: “the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:6)

John Dickinson saw this truth clearly—not just in religion, but in government. When laws or the Constitution are applied without regard to their original intent, they fail.

Understanding purpose matters:
Study the words.
Seek the full context.
Apply truth rightly. (2 Timothy 2:15)

Because without the spirit… even good laws lose their life.

REMEMBER THE POWER OF LOVE

In 1680, King Charles II granted 45,000 square miles of land in America to William Penn to settle a debt owed to his father.

When asked what he would do with such an unexpected gift, Penn replied:

“Let us see what love can do.”

He called it a “Holy Experiment.”
A society built not on force—but on Christian love, liberty, and respect for others.

In 1682, Penn established Pennsylvania as a colony where people of all faiths were free to worship. That spirit of freedom helped pave the way for movements like the African Methodist Episcopal Church—a lasting legacy of religious liberty.

Penn’s vision extended to Philadelphia—a “great town” designed for community, with open spaces, order, and purpose.

That same city would later become the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Penn also drafted a Frame of Government that championed:

Freedom of religion
Fair trials
Freedom from unjust imprisonment
Freedom of the press
Private property rights
Free elections
Separation of powers

Principles that would shape the foundation of America.

REMEMBER WHAT MATTERS IN LEADERSHIP

What happens when it’s unclear what candidates truly believe—or what they’re committed to?

Many claim the name “Christian,” yet their lives and policies tell a different story.

John Jay gave wise counsel: look at the fruit.

Examine a leader’s life.
Who do they seek for guidance?
Are their actions consistent with Biblical values—or contrary to them?

Titles mean little without truth behind them.

Choose leaders whose lives reflect what they profess—those more likely to bring God’s blessing on those they serve.

Consider carefully what you are doing.

REMEMBER THE WARNING

In 2 Chronicles 18–19, King Jehoshaphat is asked by King Ahab to join him in battle.

Before acting, Jehoshaphat does something wise—he seeks counsel from the prophet Micaiah.
The message is clear: Ahab will fall.

Yet despite the warning… Jehoshaphat still aligns himself with Ahab.

It’s the danger of asking for truth—but only wanting confirmation.

The outcome?
Ahab is killed.
Jehoshaphat barely escapes with his life.

The lesson is unmistakable:

When we align ourselves with those who oppose God’s ways, we place ourselves in harm’s way.

Today, the principle still stands.

If we the people elevate and support leaders who reject righteousness, we are not neutral—we are aligning ourselves with them.

And alignment carries consequences.

A nation cannot expect God’s blessing while walking contrary to His ways.

Choose alignment wisely.
