July 2005 Dave Mirra invited me out to his Amazing Training Facility in Greenville, NC to ride and hang out. Without hesitation, I drove out there and spent a few days doing just that, trying rodeo 900’s in the foam pit, went wake skating at his lake spot with him the family and Allan Cooke. We had a lot of great PRO conversations over dinner, at the lake and at the park. Dave loved the PROcabulary, PROtential and all the play on words with music.
In 2015 I built the the first PROtotype of the PRO Trainer Hanger with Skateboard, Surfboard, BMX, Wake and Snowboard Attachments. Dave’s PROtivation lead me to build the BMX bike attachment after the skateboard machine was complete. The skateboard machine worked great and I thought a BMX Bike would be amazing if it worked. Turned out better than I thought and couldn’t wait to show Dave this machine.
He knew the dream and the name PRO just needed the right structure to occur and it was on, so he attended meetings and voiced his thoughts. Those ideas and years of other riders ideas from everyone are what got us where we are today in ink and paper and I know Dave would be PROud to see it! Pro Riders® Official Sports P.R.O.S. That’s 25 Years of blood, sweat and tears. Like Stephen Murray said”The Time is Now!
Watching all this footage from 20 years ago made feel like Dave was editing this video with me. I miss his smile and laugh tremendously and how he rolled. Always jammin my music and hypin me up like friends do. That meant the world! He taught me my first backflip on his bike at Woodward, PA in the foam pit, “Just lean back like a Lazy Boy and look for the landing”. Bam first try! Lot’s of shootin pool games, ridin sessions, burnouts in his car and nothin but good times and great memories.
It’s been over a decade now since Dave became our angel on the shoulder and I feel he was directing this one. This footage was never released and when I seen it again the song just rolled out and I could hear the laughter, passion and seriousness all at the same time.
The Gnar Bar footage with the bike on the ceiling was 2021 during the you know what times and it was Cory Nastazio’s birthday party. Thanks to Jesse Fortney for bringing the Gnarness together. Never a dull moment around these legends. Right when I saw the bike on the ceiling I was thinkin Dave Mirra style. Time to go to work!
