🏆 BACK-TO-BACK STATE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

The Narrows Green Wave Girls 4x400 Relay team has done it again!

Kailyn Jones, Ellyn Bowles, Carissa Kohel, and Caelyn Buracker raced their way to a second consecutive VHSL Class 1 State Championship while also setting a NEW SCHOOL RECORD with a blazing time of 4:13.98! 🔥⚡

Champions once. Champions twice. This group cemented their place in Narrows Track & Field history with another unforgettable performance on the biggest stage.

Congratulations to the athletes and Coach Dakota Shrader on an incredible season and a well-earned State Championship! 💚💛

☀️🌿 Appalachian Evolved 🌿☀️

This morning on South Holston, I sat by the lake with my tea and watched one of the prettiest little pieces of Appalachia unfold right in front of me.

A bald eagle sat quietly along the shoreline while a group of pelicans stayed gathered out on that tiny patch of land for hours and hours, eating while the last of the storm slowly moved out of the mountains. The lake was calm again after all the much needed rain this past week, the clouds finally breaking apart enough for soft light to spill across the water.

Then all at once, those pelicans lifted off.

They circled high and wide above me so gracefully it almost didn’t feel real, then dipped low enough to lightly skim the water before turning back across the lake toward wherever home is for them.

Everything about it felt peaceful. Slow. Wild. Appalachian in the purest kind of way.

No traffic. No noise. No rushing.

Just mountain air, fresh rainwater, a quiet lake, an eagle keeping watch, and pelicans dancing across South Holston while I drank my morning tea on vacation.

Sometimes I think God shows off a little around Appalachia. 🤍
