One of the greatest compliments I can receive in this job is, “You’re changing my life,” “You’re blowing my mind,” or “I’ve never seen myself look like this.” 🥹

And THIS was one of those moments.

We were moving through her Iconic Colors when we landed on this dusty lavender, and there it was. Her ICONIC moment. 💜

There are basically 4 stages of getting your color analysis done 😂
Stage 1: DENIAL
“No. There is absolutely no way that color looks better on me.”
Stage 2: BARGAINING
“But I’ve worn black my entire life…”
“But gold is my thing…”
“But I ALWAYS get compliments in this color…”
Stage 3: BLIND TRUST
You still don’t fully see it yet…
but you start buying the colors I told you to buy anyway.
And then comes Stage 4:
YOU FINALLY SEE IT.
Suddenly you notice which colors make your skin look brighter.
You see which shades bring your eyes forward instead of overpowering them.

You’ve heard me say it, and I will die on this hill: blondes can’t be Winters. 😂 But can a Winter be blonde? Okay, technically, YES. You can color your hair anything you want. But will it be in natural harmony? That’s a different story.

This beautiful client is a Winter with naturally black hair, and look what happens when I hold that blonde hair up to her. She admitted she had been blonde before, but something always felt a little off. She found herself adding more makeup, trying different clothes, and never really knowing what wasn’t clicking.

And THIS is why hair can be one of the trickiest pieces of the puzzle. Sometimes we blame the makeup. Sometimes we blame the clothes. Sometimes we think we just haven’t found the right blonde. But when we compare that blonde against her gorgeous natural black hair, suddenly it all makes sense.

Sometimes the color you swear you hate is actually waiting to become one of your most ICONIC. 💜

This client loved lilac as a child, but somewhere along the way, she stopped wearing it. And look at her now. Those green eyes with the right purple? Magic. Purple and green are complementary, but remember, we’re never dressing the eyes alone. We still have to find the right purple that honors the skin’s response to color.

And this reveal gets even better. She came to me convinced she was a Summer and had been living in ash, ash, ASHY hair and cool makeup. I’m holding up the Light palette, and here’s what you need to know. ✨

The Light palettes are neutral in undertone, and they include three possibilities:

• True Light
• Light Spring
• Light Summer

But no matter which Light you are, there is one non-negotiable rule:

You cannot have deep, dark hair.

To harmonize with the Light palette, you must have blonde or dark blonde hair — soft, gentle, low-contrast features that match the palette itself. 🌤️

Because here’s the truth:
You have to look like the palette you belong to.

So many people tell me, “I think I’m a Light!”

But then they sit in my chair with deep brown hair, dark brows, or strong contrasting features — and none of that can harmonize with colors this delicate.
