WHEN THE JACKET IS BEAUTIFUL… BUT YOU HATE WEARING IT.
We’ve started seeing the same complaint repeatedly with the Barbour Beacon:
“I love the jacket, but it’s just too uncomfortable to wear.”
And there’s a reason.
The original construction uses a synthetic/plastic-feeling sleeve lining, combined with a membrane between the outer shell and lining. The result can trap heat and moisture, making an otherwise beautiful jacket feel surprisingly hot, clammy and uncomfortable—especially when worn indoors or during transitional seasons.
We took a different approach and took the matter into our hands.
We removed the internal membrane and replaced the original sleeve lining with Barbour Centenary green tartan cotton. This material feels far more natural against the body while staying true to the Barbour aesthetic.
The difference is immediate: less trapped heat, better breathability, a more comfortable sleeve—and a jacket our client actually wants to wear again.
This is what we mean when we say:
REPAIR DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN PUTTING SOMETHING BACK THE WAY IT WAS.
Sometimes you can improve the original design.
Sometimes repair means Version 2.0.
