2024; a retrospective.

I want to start with gratitude for myself, firstly-- for following through on the vision I had for an extended size shoe brand and for pushing through when things felt impossible and I wanted to give up. Secondly, for everyone who has encouraged me, supported me, given me their time and of course has become one of my first customers! THANK YOU!!

And I want to reflect on what was a monumental year for this brand because we received our first order of inventory to sell online and in stores. A moment that at times felt unattainable with the countless setbacks that come with production and being on others' timelines....

I like to use 'we' instead of 'I' because I include everyone who has been apart of the development and growth of this brand since I decided to embark on this journey in Feb 2020.

A lot of times, especially times like these when humans prove to be at odds with humanity and Mother Nature, a consumer brand feels trivial...

Yet, this brand is more than a product, it's a feeling; that feeling being BIG FOOT ENERGY. That anyone, regardless of what size shoe they wear...regardless of gender, may feel confident and empowered because they feel included and acknowledged.

And so, I am very happy and proud to share these memories and the people that shaped our 2024.

My wish for all of us in 2025 is that we continue to FEEL and those feelings be a catalyst for love, empathy, gratitude, activism and more.

🌈 HAPPY PRIDE 2024! 🌈

The Baldwin Boot was designed out of inspiration from James Baldwin's cool, calm demeanor and style. A pioneer in gay rights and literature, Baldwin openly spoke about sexuality. Ahead of his time, he argued that sexuality was fluid and should not be divided by strict categories.

Today, on this Pride Sunday, we celebrate James Baldwin and his contributions to the gay rights movement. He passed away in December 1987 at age 63.

We had the pleasure of meeting up with Khalil Anthony (), polymath and artist from Chicago, in Sta Maria La Ribera, CDMX for a photo session in the Baldwin Boot. Anthony is someone for us who channels James Baldwin's energy and spirit through his work and existence. He took the time to answer some questions for us on his relationship with the Baldwins. Here is a snippet. Full interview will be up on the website soon.

LF: What connection do you have with James Baldwin and how do you find yourself remaining connected to his spirit?

KA: James Baldwin is the man. I remember seeing him speak on panels and television as a child, and his fierce usage of language and immense power to articulate hard truths taught me that we must face whatever comes in a manner of excellence. James Baldwin is "black-excellence", a sense of knowing in every word he wrote and an awareness of all the things around him to fuel the powerful narrative he masterfully weaves together. He has always been a beacon in the world for what it means to be free. To seek a thing different from what is being presented and offer up an alternative world for us to consume. His ability to create this world, inviting us in for the ride engulfing the reader or listener into a new space with characters whose stories have surprised and marveled us for years. I've always felt like parts of me are in alignment with this icon, and at times this energy inspires me to accomplish more in my life's adventures.
