Is style something you’re born with?

Most women believe that. And that belief is exactly what’s keeping them stuck.

It’s not an accident. The fashion system needs you to believe that style is a talent, something innate, mysterious, reserved for a certain kind of woman.

Because the moment you decide style is a talent, one of two things happens. Either you never start, because why practice something you don’t have? Or you hand it over to something that feels easier. Trends. Algorithms. Whatever everyone else is wearing this season.

Both paths lead to the same place. A full closet that doesn’t feel like you.

After 30 years as a fashion designer, I’ve watched this in women more times than I can count. Style isn’t a talent. It’s not a personality type. It’s a practice! One you can claim at any point, on your own terms, starting from exactly where you are.

You start with who you are and the energy you want to put out. The version of you that is deliberate. We are all born with a wonderful uniqueness inside. It’s just a matter of learning how to show it. 🖤

« Look expensive » is one of the most searched style tips on the internet. And I’ve never understood it.

Not because looking polished doesn’t matter. It does. But because expensive is the wrong goal entirely. When you’re chasing expensive, you’re chasing someone else’s idea of value. You’re dressing for a room full of people who don’t know you, to prove something that doesn’t actually need proving.

After 30 years as a fashion designer, the women I find most striking are never the ones trying to look expensive. They’re the ones who look like themselves. Completely. Unapologetically. That’s not a price point. That’s a decision.

Stop dressing for perception. Start dressing for yourself. 🖤

Everyone is talking about building a wardrobe…

What to buy. What to purge. How many pieces you need. But no one talks about what to do when you have a closet full of clothes and still can’t get dressed.

I’ve been there. A wardrobe full of beautiful pieces, and nothing that ever felt complete. I’d stand in front of my closet and feel like I was always one piece away from an outfit. So I kept buying. And the problem never went away.

Because the problem was never the clothes. It was that I hadn’t defined what I actually wanted to say with how I dressed. Once I stopped shopping and started editing with intention, everything shifted. I focused on:

✅ silhouette
✅ proportion
✅ a signature point of view
✅ pieces that work together, not just individually

Not more. Not a full reset. Just clarity. And that clarity built something more useful than a full closet. It built a wardrobe with a language.

If you’re standing in front of a full closet feeling like you have nothing to wear… the answer isn’t another piece. It’s a framework. Start there.

You didn’t learn to walk by following rules. You figured it out by trying.

Style works the same way. Style was never meant to be a rulebook. It was meant to be a conversation between you and your clothes.

Which rule are you done having that conversation with? 👇🏾

Rules are meant to be broken.

Understanding who you are. Wearing what makes you feel confident. And being intentional about the woman the world sees when you walk in. That’s your formula. Nobody else can give it to you.

So wear the form fitting dress. Wear the bold print. Wear whatever makes you feel you. 🖤

I wore 2 scarves to dinner and nobody knew. ☺️

Not an accessory. Not a finishing touch. The whole outfit. No sewing. No pattern. Just imagination. 🖤

This is already in your scarf collection waiting for you.

If you can’t afford it… make it yourself.

I turned a scarf into a $1,870 Balmain-inspired top in 5 minutes. No sewing, no pattern, no fashion degree needed!

👉🏾 Want to make it yourself? I broke down every step in my carousel. Go check it out and save it for the weekend. 🖤

This Balmain scarf top costs $1,870. Mine cost a fraction of that.

All you need is 2 scarves and body dressing tape. No sewing. No pattern.

Prefer something more permanent? Use fabric glue. Know how to sew? Stitch along the same points. Same result either way. 🖤

Save this and make it this weekend.
