Sending Love and Light to Issey Miyake who left this planet recently. Although his Couture House and Brand will continue on (he retired from it officially in 1997), his direct DNA and Star Light will be missed by many.

According to W Magazine, "Miyake’s designs weren’t particular meant for your typical red carpet, and his client base wasn’t necessarily starlets with a paid stylist.

Instead, it was singular icons who gravitated to Miyake’s designs. Steve Jobs’s trademark black turtlenecks were made by Miyake. Grace Jones wore his designs often. Robin Williams was a fan. Mary-Kate Olsen wore a black Miyake dress to the 2013 CFDA awards. His clothing is a staple of the wardrobes of an untold number of fashion editors, art gallerists, and poets."

My Philosophy has not changed in 24 years, it has only increased in Light and Love.

Quality, true quality, is not about pomposity, complexity or price. It is about the love and attention put into an object or craft.

When someone feels a deep love and affection for something, a passion in fact, the most natural response is to care for this object and its manifestation with complete and utterly meticulous attention. It is out of this great love and passion that all great works have been created and born. And it is out of this passion that I create and produce my collections.

For me, there is no reward as gratifying as the contentment I feel when I have contributed to making the external beauty of my client as fabulous as the internal beauty I see in her.

This, for me, is creating harmony. It is my truest art.

PUFF LAVERTY 💖 🥂

Honoring one of my favorite humans who was also a client, Puff Laverty.
Her husband, Bob Laverty created the company we know as Smart and Final. Bob also owned a jewelry workshop, so Puff was always adorned with the finest luxury pieces.

The day of my show, one friend said she admired Puffs courage to walk around with quarter of a million dollars draped on her fragile frame. It reminds me of the remark in the film, The Thomas Crown Affair (with Pierce Brosnan) where the detective says,” Some of these dames are walking around with a years worth of my salary hanging around their neck”. 😆

This photo was taken at a trunk show I gave in Bel Air in 1990. I was honored to have a young woman attend, who was a roving reporter for Vogue. She was lovely, complementary and a pleasure to have joining us that day.

And Puff made it home safely with that “years worth of salaries” hanging around her neck.
