It started on a dark and stormy night. The power had gone out, and inspiration had hit tender 9 year old me: I wanted to make something for my baby brother who was on his way into the world. The perfect storm of motivation and my inherent love for the pursuit of new knowledge brewed within, and along came Minerva, goddess of crafts, weaving and magic, to illuminate it. Though the baby hat I started that night never came to full florishen, the obsession for fiber arts had started. Hi, I’m Sharmeen, and I am a fiberholic. Here you will find my shop Minerva Knits, an assemblage of items that represent my ever growing passion for crafting. My Etsy shop features a diverse collection of pieces stemming from the different craft talents I have acquired and honed since childhood; everything from knitting and crocheting, to beading jewelry and sewing. I can’t remember a time when I wasn't spending my free time doing arts and crafts … or playing video games … and it’s something that I share with my baby brother and baby sister. My brother and sister are the inspiration and motivation behind my Etsy Shop. You can say they are my style consultants, models and biggest fans rolled into one. I’m a huge proponent for local textiles and small businesses. I love spending time at small boutique arts and crafts stores, and experimenting with yarns made from unconventional materials, like re-purposed sari fabric yarns. I also believe in supporting independent yarn distributors who are trying to make eco-friendly yarns that are as unique as the items I’m inspired to create with them.
