Greetings from Espagna!

Featuring our new Barcelona Pant
Pleated, wide, and made to be walked in.

One of my latest, and most favorite wardrobe additions. Elastic at the waist, grosgrain ribbon ties down both sides, made to be equally comfortable and elegant. Made to order in your one of a kind fabric selection — 3-4 weeks. Link in bio.

My slips are made one of a kind, for one person, to their measurements, in their preferred selection of silk and lace.

I’m taking commissions for fall. A slip dress like this runs six to eight weeks (or slightly longer depending on how complicated we let it get…) — which means the ones ordered now arrive in time for the season they were imagined for.

It starts with an exploratory appointment: thirty minutes, complimentary, virtual or in person → fernnewyork.com/book-online 🖤 Link in Bio

Every costume starts as a drawing. Some of them are still waiting to be realized.

These are my sketches for The Wolff — the AVID: Artistic Ventures In Dance reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood, and the first production where I was asked to build an entire world of characters. The four forest costumes and Grandmother’s dress made it to the stage in June. Red and Wolff are still on paper.

The drawings exist. The garments are waiting. AVID is fundraising to build them — if independent work made in New York is something you want to see more of, please make a donation at aviddance.org and give them a follow.

My intern and I have spent the past couple months building the four forest costumes and Grandmother’s dress for AVID: Artistic Ventures In Dance ‘s retelling of Little Red Ridinghood. Each piece went through the same process as any FERN garment: sketching, draping, sourcing, fitting, correcting, sewing again. The difference is that performance costume has its own demands — fabric that can move, hold, and survive every count, every lift, every reach. Bringing a couture designer’s precision to that challenge has been an exciting process. I’m very grateful to choreographer Melody Mennite and AVID foMelody Menniteeed for trusting mEmily Speed project.

Next up will be the costumes for Red and Wolff! Stay tuned for sketches, but if you’d like to see more costumes brought to life, please make a donation to AVID: Artistic Ventures In Dance .

This weekend we celebrated Pride in a whole new way! I was invited to have a table to share my designs at the second annual SpeakUp! Festival.

To share just a bit of the excitement, there was Shakespeareane theatre by Carla Kissane . Plus, an ASL dance performance by Brandon Kazen-Maddox that was a whole new take on what dance can be. And a joyous closing set from the extraordinary VY HIGGINSEN’S SING HARLEM CHOIR.
Plus so much more.

What a special way to be a part of something bigger, and celebrate the arts, even on an incredibly rainy day. Happy Pride my loves!
