We’re celebrating Black History Month here at art & eden 🥳 and wanted to share about one black designer who inspires us - Tracy Reese! Tracy Reese is not only massively influential in the world of fashion, having achieved global success with her contemporary clothing rooted in a distinct, lasting sense of style, she is also an environmentalist! She, like our own Founder & CEO, Susan Correa, had spent many years in fashion producing high quantities of clothing at the cheapest price point possible. But after reflecting on the impact this type of production was having on our planet and the people who produced them, she courageously put her foot down and launched a new sustainable brand called Hope for Flowers out of her hometown in Detroit which employs women re-entering the workforce that want to learn new skills. As a minority-led, woman-led, sustainable brand ourselves, we are so thankful for the example of power, resilience, excellence, hard work, intelligence, and talent that Tracy Reese is. Black lives Matter. In an interview with the Miami Times, Reese importantly notes, "We have to keep pushing the issue (of racial disparity) so people will be conscious about making changes… We have to keep the conversation going.” Consciousness is where change begins. We want to encourage everyone, like Tracy Reese so eloquently stated, to keep the conversation going about racial disparity in all contexts - listening, learning, and acting - so that we can be collectively conscious, ensuring every voice and every person is heard and given the value and opportunity they deserve. Happy Black History Month!
