About Sarah:
While living in Paris, Sarah fell in love with city cycling but quickly sensed her de rigueur black overcoat was dangerously inconspicuous on busy streets. A vision of diaphanous nymphs illuminating Paris on bicycles proved to Sarah that her need to be seen and her taste for fun fashion didn’t have to be mutually exclusive. A screenwriter and actress, Sarah’s passion for spectacle and drama infuses her collections, as do the spirits of butterflies and other creatures that careen through space, and the sensibilities of the places she’s been fortunate to inhabit: Paris, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles and NYC- a city that embodies metamorphosis and the one she currently calls home. From Sarah for all the people who think they'd like to bike but... :
I used to be a total scared-y-cat (ie. terrified) when it came to biking in the city and was often seen seated on my bike-loving French Ex's luggage rack as he pedaled us around. Now I can't think of a better way to get around town and am totally addicted to the freedom, fun and convenience of speeding around on my own two wheels. My transformation came literally because of the Velib bike share system. I was living in Paris when it first started (having ignored my Ex's pleas to buy my own bike) and only first tried biking because there was a station right across from our apartment. I discovered biking in the city wasn’t insane and that unbeknownst to me as a pedestrian, the city had been transformed into a bikers' haven- with bike lanes, bike traffic lights, bike traffic signs and more! After one ride I was hooked and I got to know the city in a way I could never have otherwise. This is happening in NYC, too since the arrival of the Citibike bike-share system. Despite the enormous joy this new transportation brought me, it also has its dangers. The reason I designed these vests was because with my new passion, I also become keenly aware that we all possess a sixth sense- which is "I am visible.” “People- driving cars, trucks, buses- can see me." (Or the opposite, “I am not visible.” “People- driving cars, trucks, buses- can not see me.") But instead of having to plan a whole outfit around being visible on a bike- I thought, why not just throw something cute over what I’m already wearing and go brightly, turn heads, stop traffic, only while on my wheels... or all the time... depending on my mood... or why not build my visibility right into the clothing I love to wear.
