Exactly three years ago, I launched a podcast, fueled by equal parts excitement and massive imposter syndrome.

Growing up, “talks excessively in class” was a permanent fixture on my report cards. Teachers moved my seat because I was “disruptive.” I was constantly told to stop asking so many questions so the lesson could move forward. Fast forward to today: I spend my time interviewing industry leaders across high-end, commercial, and legacy brands.

As someone who never quite fit the “mainstream” mold in the independent design community, stepping into the host seat felt risky. But bringing that exact background to the microphone is what made the conversations real, raw, and authentic.

If there was ever poetic justice, this is it. To anyone currently being told they’re “too much” of something: double down. Your disruptive trait might just be your biggest competitive edge.

Vegan leather alternatives from my latest Substack: A fruit salad of opportunities! 🍍🍎🥑

Swipe to see how top brands turn fruit waste into luxury bags! 👜✨

⚠️ Reality Check: “Vegan” and “sustainable” aren’t synonymous. Most plant materials require a bio-PU coating for durability, but they’re still a huge step forward for circular design.

Fruit & Brand Quick Guide:
🍍 (Pineapple): Organic texture | ALKEME ATELIER ATELIER
🍎 AppleSkin (Apple): Smooth & pliable | SANS BEAST BEAST

From pandemic passion project to iconic retail takeovers. 💫 On this episode of Handbag Designer 101, I sit down with Lale Boz founder of NORMAL to unpack how she built an immersive retail platform for emerging designers, vintage sellers, and artists.

Lale gets honest about what physical retail in NYC actually takes—from high real estate costs, staffing, and insurance to the grit required to turn pop-ups into thriving communities.

Quick takeaways:
• Experiential, temporary spaces create true urgency and discovery.
• Independent brands grow faster together than alone.
• Shelf space isn’t enough anymore—retail has to offer storytelling, PR, and content.

My most raw Substack yet. I strongly recommend the read purely because the topic of the “Anti-It Bag” is so on trend; what does that really mean for the independent designer who is nowhere near a DeMellier, Strathberry, or MZ Wallace? Where do they fit in? Can the Independent Designer ever cross over from the minor leagues to the majors? You tell me. Link in bio to read.

👜 Are handbags dying out... or are we just carrying them differently? I got into this with fashion strategist Jay Choyce Tibbitts | NYC Fashion Creator on the latest Handbag Designer 101 Podcast 🎙️ Here’s what we unpacked 👇
✨ Evolution, not extinction — people still want bags, they just want different things from them
✨ Culture > heritage — legacy names alone don’t sell anymore
✨ Discovery has changed — AI search + resale are the new front door for indie brands
This industry is shifting fast, and the brands paying attention are the ones winning.
