Grace Edwards, a Philippine born self-taught artist, and a New York resident since 2001, began her career creating one-of-a-kind avant-garde club wear in 2005. Thought of as an underground designer, she liked the idea of appealing to the nightlife crowds around the world. “My clothes are meant to move and flow whi

le on a dance floor in New York, Manila, London, and Tokyo”. Grace’s philosophy is that ‘fashion design comes from the soul and is a natural reflection of one’s past experiences’. In October of 2005, Grace was selected as a participant in the AOL Entrepreneur online reality series, “The Startup.” Her business, Grace Edwards New York, Inc. was one of three businesses chosen out of 2,000 candidates, and the only New York business spotlighted. “The Startup” chronicled a day in the life of three entrepreneurs during their first year of business. The program first aired online on November 1st, 2005. After experiencing start-up success on the AOL on-line reality show, Grace opened her studio in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, and became the best well kept secret in town amongst New York society hipsters. Her clients included New York’s young celebrities and rock stars, underground artists/designers, and Wall Street moguls. In February, 2012, Grace moved the entire contents of her studio in New York to Manila, Philippines, when she felt it was the right time to change scenery, believing that when you follow your heart and soul, success will always be around the corner. What started with lovingly hand sewn skirts at Henri Bendel became my mother’s beautiful brand, spanning over two decades and multiple continents. For her, design was a love language, each collection an homage to what was lighting up her world and her heart that season. It was also a family business, with me backstage at clubs dressing the models from a young age, to my father with the suitcases and the directing, to my brother with the racks and music. More clubs than we can count, each show a celebration with friends, fans, supporters, and collaborators, no two shows alike. All showcasing her one of kind designs, unabashed, bold, bright, and joyful. Truly an outward expression of her and how she saw the world.
It is only fitting we memorialize my mother on the runway for NYFW. Please join us Friday, February 7 at Populares to celebrate her life in fashion. Viva Grace! 👏🌺

I lost my beautiful Grace last night. She was full of love, passion, and fun. She loved being with our ever expanding family and we were blessed to have three wonderful children, Joey, Scotty, and Muki Tunting :). As she liked to tell me, we grew up together and had the opportunity to see the world as one. And along the way, met and befriended some truly amazing people who we love so much. We also got to know and love some angels in the medical community and to you, I send my thanks for the loving care you provided. Grace, baby, I will miss and love you forever.
