Jhane Barnes, Inc. Fashion and product designer. Visit our updated website http://www.jhanebarnes.com Much of her career has been built on pushing boundaries.

Jhane Barnes, founder of Jhane Barnes Inc., is an award-winning designer of fashion, eyewear, textiles, flooring, and furniture. “Good design is that which inspires, challenges, and endures” has been Jhane’s mantra since she started her design business. That belief is reflected in her long collaboration with Knoll, Tandus Centiva, Bernhardt, KenmarkOptical and Lumicor. Jhane began working with Tan

dus Centiva more than 20 years ago and developed the first modular products designed for random installation. Her innovative carpet tile and Powerbond products for Tandus-Centiva have been revolutionary. She uses a blend of science and art, incorporating mathematics into many of the products she designs using her custom developed software. Her latest flooring products encompass the core of her design aesthetic as she continues to push those boundaries. Over the years, Jhane has won nearly every fashion and interior industry award there is. Most recently, she was presented with the 2015 Interior Design Magazine’s HiP Flooring Product Designer Award at Neocon. In 2014, she won several awards including the Nightingale Gold Award in Technology and Best of NeoCon for Innovation in Healthcare Flooring. Today, Jhane's newest collections of interior textiles continue to be found at Anzea.com and Tandus Centiva. She is also excited about the launch of vibrant signage for Takeform and digitally printed upholstery for LDI.

🎉 Big reveal time! Our latest sock collection is here, and trust me, it's our most fantastic lineup so far!

When I wrapped up my men’s fashion chapter, I ensured every strand of yarn found its purpose. All those gorgeous surplus yarns from our world-wide factories? Sent straight to our loyal hosiery mates in Nara, Japan. And since socks don't eat up much yarn, our stash lasted. But to keep these sock creations coming, I dove deep into the world of unique yarns I cherish, readying us for the next four years of epic designs.

Feast your eyes on these sock masterpieces! 🧦 Designed with intricate prints, space-dyed patterns, vibrant heathers, and the most delightful variegated yarns, all hailing from Italy. Though some yarn buddies in the US and Japan have moved on, I rekindled the bond with my beloved Italian yarn maestros (now teamed up with another fab brand). Sure, their yarns have a premium touch, but oh, the quality is worth every penny!

I sense the murmur: "How about making shirts again?" 🤔 Venturing there now feels like exploring a new world. And those magical machines that once spun our fabric tales? Retired. It was a revelation that my designs were the heartbeats of those machines.

But here's the heart of it all: Today, socks are where my soul dances. 🕺 With a bond over 30 years strong with our Nara factory, their recent message praising our journey together touched my heart deeply.

So, come and dive into our latest sock symphony. 🎶 Each design, hue, and weave is a chapter of my story. I've poured my soul into them, and I'm thrilled to share them with you. Enjoy! ❤️🧦🌈

📷 Check out this amazing installation of "Corollary" at Georgia Tech! 😍
This is one of my newer introductions for Tarkett contract, and I am thrilled to see it in action. 🙌
"Corollary" is one of my latest carpet styles, and it was created using a mathematical concept called “space filling fractals”. It's perfect for a variety of contract environments, including education, corporate, and hospitality spaces. 🌟
Thank you to Georgia Tech for this incredible installation. I'm proud to be a part of your space!

I am pleased to announce my new eyewear collection! And, for a limited time, I'm offering 20% off on all of my eyewear purchased from my online store (https://store.jhanebarnes.com/collections/eyewear) now through December 15!

One of my personal favorites is "Parsec" (shown lower right in the picture below). The temples are constructed with a combination of wood and acrylic. In addition to a beautiful Indigo color, "Parsec" is also available in Crystal (clear) and Charcoal. And they come with spring hinged temples that I love. New styles "Quark" (top photo) and "Spectra" (bottom left) also have the spring hinges. See these and more in the eyewear section of my online store.

I am pleased to announce my new digital art collection available in my online store (http://store.jhanebarnes.com). Please take a look to see how I’ve spent my time during the pandemic (I've posted a few examples here). I think I have never spent so much time by myself. I found, in many ways, the quiet isolation of the last year to be inspiring.

We worked (remotely of course!) on improving my special design software so once I created a new piece, I could re-create it in a variety of colors. I’ve also been able to vary canvas sizes while keeping the same “feel” as the original. I hope you find something you like!

I went out to see friends this weekend for the first time since the pandemic started. It felt good to be able to hug people again (we were all vaccinated).

Just wanted to give my thanks to the doctors who have helped me develop the patterns and techniques for making face masks. Their suggestions and advice have been invaluable. On the left is Dr. Dan Meyer, a dear friend, who is at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas. On the right is my friend and neighbor, Dr. Al Rizzo from Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx.

Since I posted my original story about making face masks at the studio, a number of people have asked me for a “how-to” tutorial and pattern. I’ve created a video with step-by-step instructions and a link to a pattern you can download.

The video is available on Vimeo at: https://vimeo.com/410780455

To offer more protection, I’ve started making them with Pellon fusible interfacing (2 layers) and it makes a very stiff but long lasting mask and still is easy to breathe through.

This video shows how to make masks that function as covers for N95 masks for medical personnel or as stand-alone masks for grocery shopping.
