A Little Piece of Americana

Just picked up this interesting vintage patriotic boater hat and did a little digging into its history.

While it resembles the classic straw boater hats that were popular from the late 1800s through the 1920s, this particular example was made by Lewtan Line and appears to date to the 1960s or 1970s. The red, white, and blue band, along with the manufacturer’s markings and patent information, suggest it was likely used for Fourth of July celebrations, parades, political rallies, community events, or other patriotic gatherings.

It’s always fascinating how everyday items tell a story. What was once a simple parade hat is now a reminder of a different era of American celebrations and hometown traditions.

Do any of you remember seeing hats like this at parades, school programs, or community events growing up?

A Great Question Has Been Asked

Several people have asked whether teams are allowed to participate in the Newton Falls Treasure Hunt and how the prize would be handled if a group solves it together.

The answer is simple:

You are welcome to work as a team, partner, family, or group if you choose.

However, only one individual can officially claim and receive the treasure.

If you are working with others, your group must decide in advance who will serve as the official representative. If your team is successful, the treasure will be awarded to that designated individual.

What happens after that is entirely up to your group. How the treasure, cash, gold, silver, or other items are divided among team members is a private matter between those individuals.

I will only award the treasure to one person and will not be involved in determining how it is split, distributed, or shared.

Hopefully that clears things up, and good luck to all the hunters as we head toward the final clues!
