James Wesley Swayze was a soldier for the Yazoo Rangers during the Civil War and the Great Grandfather of Patrick Swayze.

The Yazoo Rangers were a Confederate cavalry unit during the Civil War, commanded by Captain Gartley. The unit participated in the Battle of Yazoo City in March 1864, a Union attempt to capture the town and control the river, but the Confederate defenders, including the Yazoo Rangers, repelled the Union forces.

Drop off your nonperishable food items at the City Hall Rotunda and help us fill the shelves and share a little kindness with our neighbors at the Olive Branch Food Pantry and the Desoto County Dream Center: Olive Branch.

City Hall is open Monday- Friday 8am until 5pm. Please note that City Hall will be closed in observance of the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Our Rebel Walk Player of the Game is Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander! He was a massive part of the team’s 41-38 victory over Louisville. He had two huge 62-yard receiving touchdowns where he turned on the jets into the end zone. On just five receptions, he recorded 159 receiving yards, which means he averaged 31.8 yards a reception. Congratulations to Deuce!
