We have another virtual lecture coming up this Tuesday, May 26th at 7:00pm eastern. Amber Kendall will be presenting “Making Lace: Lace Makers and Technology”.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, lace was a luxury item and lace production was largely a “cottage industry” that employed thousands of women across Europe in their own homes. Revolutions in taste and technology imperiled the livelihood of the lacemaker, but opened new avenues for fashion in the 19th century. Join us as we explore primary sources and extant pieces to reveal the evolution of lace in fashion and economy, from the perspective of both the lacemaker and the consumer.
Cost is $15. Recording will be available to registered attendees for 2 weeks. Register on our website. Link is in the comments.
