The Erasure of History Only Makes It Louder. đŁď¸đşđ¸
On September 1, 1975âin Americaâs 199th yearâDaniel "Chappie" James Jr. made history as the first African American four-star general in U.S. military history. Now, in our 249th year, the nation has decided to take down his portrait, removing a symbol of respect that has stood for the last decade.
This is nothing new. Just like the 332nd Fighter Groupâs victory in the first United States Air Force Weapons Meet, some achievements are hiddenâbut they CANNOT be erased.
This is exactly why UNKNOWN FORTY-NINE exists. Our theory is simple: the more we talk about and celebrate African American history, the harder it becomes to erase it. General James was a true patriot who flew 101 combat missions in the Korean War and 78 in Vietnam. As he once said, "I fought in three wars and three more wouldn't be too many to defend my country."
So, we want to issue a sarcastic but sincere "thank you" to the US Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump, and those in the government trying to sideline this history. By attempting to hide it, you are only putting these patriots front-and-center and bringing MORE attention to their legendary achievements.
đ Help us thank them by SHARING this post! Let's make sure the story of 4-Star General Daniel "Chappie" James Jr.âa TRUE American heroâis heard louder than ever.
