The biggest opportunities I’ve had with KSØKS didn’t come from cold emails or paid placements. They came from relationships I built years before I needed anything from anyone.

Pro athletes wearing my socks on national TV. The Aramark deal. The collabs that moved this brand forward. None of that came from a pitch. All of it came from people who already believed in what I was building.

If you’re trying to grow something real, the relationships have to come first. The opportunities show up later.

A loose cuff isn’t normal wear and tear. It’s a shortcut brands take to cut costs, weak ribbing, low-grade elastic, cheap construction. Two months in and the cuff gives out. We built KSØKS to last.

Once I had a manufacturer, the real work started. It took about a year and a half, three orders, and a thousand pairs to get the base sock right. Time and work well spent.

If you’re building a business, be careful with credit. Business credit, or personal credit you’re using with the intent to spend on your business. Don’t put money on a card you don’t have a clear plan to pay back.

If you want to invest in something specific for the business and you don’t have that plan yet, save up and buy it outright. I’m still paying for stuff I put on credit early on and it’s a weight you carry while you’re trying to build.

Move smart from the start.

Building your own product from scratch starts with finding the right people to build with. I didn’t want a manufacturer who just wanted to take my money and move on. I wanted someone who cared about the product as much as I did and wanted to grow together.

That meant reaching out to 15-20 manufacturers, filtering through the ones who only cared about the order, and landing on the one who actually wanted to build a relationship.
