Palm Springs photo dump. Tried to capture images that caught my eye.

Enjoying using the light around me as opposed to creating artificial light which is how I know most photographers work.

Again, my journey is now about becoming a professional photographer but rather elevated my skills with the tool and resource in my pocket.

When I left the house this morning, it was sunny. By the time I arrived to the San Clemente shop, there was a thick marine layer.

It reminded me of a photoshoot I did with a few years back (last 2 photos).

My photography isn’t nearly as good as his and I don’t have the right camera but I am pretty happy with the results. After all, this is what my photo journal is about. Taking good pics with just using my phone.

Early morning meetup with my good friend in Newport.

Breaking bread, sharing stories, feeling loss and uplifting one another and he shared this with me:

“Do the thing.
Forgive someone, tell the people around you that you love them.
Be gentle with each other and go do that thing.
That thing is different for everyone but the importance is that you get up and go do it.
Make the trip, make the phone call, say the words, start the business, do the thing.”

There is a lot more to his story but just wanted to share this bit as it pertains to everyone that has been on the fence of getting after it.

In todays shot, my subject was my Harley. This shot was inspired by a dear friend Michael Bandy . He came to pay me a visit in San Clemente last year and brought his camera.

I was fascinated with the way he took the shot. Through the birds of paradise and how there was this blurred effect around the Harley which was in focus.

Which brings me to some of the things I am learning about which are foreground, middle ground and background. My goal was to keep the subject in the middle ground in focus while everything around it blurred out a bit. I also learned shooting through objects to make the picture more interesting and give it depth.

In today’s photo, I had looked over at a side table we have in our living room. I thought to myself that the way the sunlight was hitting would make for a great shot opportunity.

In my journey of photography, I’ve learned that the style that I am shooting is called “chiaroscuro”. By definition:

(An effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly or from a particular direction on something.)

I am truly loving this way of shooting as I feel the subject that hits the light becomes the focus.

In the first image, I broke down today. What you may not see is the tears in my eyes but you this picture may be interpreted by the viewer in many different ways. I must admit it’s tough for me to share my vulnerabilities.

In the second photo, I was challenged to do a B&W image by and decided to use the same chiaroscuro effect and I am pretty happy with the result.

“What we do in this life, echos in eternity!”

You have definitely left an impact on me brother and it’s 6 months since you moved on to the next part of your journey.

I would do anything to hear your insight, get your advice, smoke a cigar with you, take a ride, meet you for breakfast or even just for some banter.

You always came from love and never ever had an agenda and for that, you are the greatest ! It’s still hard every day to think you are not physically here man but I know you’re around in your own mischievous way.

May your memory be a blessing to all who knew you!
