Brigitta Varadi Artist

Brigitta Varadi Artist Working with different type of natural fibers like wool and linen and using textile techniques such as dyeing, felting and sculptural manipulation.

As an artist who works predominantly with the biodegradable and renewable medium of pure wool, Varadi communicates in a very direct manner her commitment to sustainability and environmental concerns. In her latest project MARKINGS the artist gathers together and explores the different marks used by farmers to identify their sheep in the North West
region.

I’m honored and excited to have been invited to speak at NYU ITP this Friday

Every Sheep Farmer Needs an Artist
An artist talk on traditional land practices, artistic research, and community-based collaboration. Grounded in artist Brigitta Varadi’s ongoing work and relationships with farmers, animals, and the lands involved.

This lecture is part of the course Biophilic Experiences: Activating Our Sensory Relationship to Nature.
As the scale of human impact on global climate and ecosystems deepens, we see the need to alter our trajectory, to be more inclusive of other species in our imagining of the future. This class sets out to investigate the relationships we humans have with nature and non-human animals, to dive deep into the meaning and utility of being in relationship, and ultimately to translate these ideas into tangible, multimedia experiences that expose a larger audience to a multi-species worldview.’

I hadn’t been familiar with the program before, which makes this invitation especially meaningful. I’m looking forward to learning more about their ethos—“The Center for the Recently Possible”—and their approach to creative technology, critical thinking, and experimental learning.

Lecture only open to NYU students and faculty.

📸Special thanks to Shan for your generous support and for capturing the show through these beautiful photos.

Material Resilience, brings together the collaborative work of Brigitta Váradi and Péter Fülöp, exploring the enduring strength and quiet adaptability of natural materials through wool and clay. Rooted in processes that are both tactile and time-honored, the
exhibition reflects on how these elemental substances, soft yet durable, fragile yet enduring, carry the imprint of human touch and environmental forces.

Váradi and Fülöp engage in a dialogue between fiber and earth, where felted textures and sculpted forms reveal narratives of transformation, repair, and continuity. Through their work, resilience is not presented as resistance alone, but as a capacity for change, inviting viewers to consider the subtle balance between vulnerability and strength embedded within the material world.

I m excited to share some wonderful news. I’m honored to have been awarded the 2026 Rural & Traditional Arts Fellowship, which will support a 10-month process to develop a new work integrated with and in response to my rural community.

This work is rooted in collaboration and an ongoing commitment to making visible the often unseen efforts within farming communities, while exploring the intersection of tradition, craft, and the everyday rituals of working life.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect with the other awarded artists and exchange ideas as we begin this journey. The Zoom info sessions, and one-to-one mentoring were invaluable in shaping my proposal, thank you for such thoughtful and valuable support.

This opportunity allows me to continue my collaboration with Turkana Farms while sustaining my studio practice and deepening my ongoing project in Germantown, NY, in collaboration with American Karakul sheep, a threatened rare heritage breed, and Mark, the farmer. This standalone, and an integral part of the project focuses on participatory engagement and moving image, creating an immersive experience rooted in material, labor, and place.

This ongoing project, began at the MacDowell Residency with HUNIA, a video performance created in the wintery forest. It then evolved into a room-sized installation through a commission by the curated by Marisa Espe , and supported in part by the emergency grant. These opportunities allowed me to expand the work, incorporate newly shorn wool, and continue developing it through collaboration with the farming community, curators, and supporters. Each phase has been both a milestone and a learning process, made possible through many hands and shared efforts.

More updates will follow soon.
