The Gyaru style, the rebel bling-bling fashion👘👘👘

-The name "Gyaru" is derived from the English word "gal," which is used to refer to a girl, kid, or chick. This term first appeared in the 1970s to describe Japanese "fashion" youths who were defying accepted notions of beauty.

The Gyaru style, which was influenced by Western society, peaked in the early 2000s. These days, numerous sub-styles have their roots in this grandiose, glitzy, and rebellious look.

All of these looks share the same fundamental elements: tanned skin, bleached hair, colorful and sensual western attire, a lot of makeup, and ostentatious accessories (wigs, jewels, artificial nails, etc.).

Bold Coatigans

-The coatigan, which combines a coat and a cardigan, is bulkier than a standard sweater but lighter than outerwear, making it ideal for layering without obscuring your appearance. Pairings that are free-flowing will counteract the large fit.

Harajuku Culture

Today, the Harajuku area is not just the center for fashion-forward Japanese youth. It’s also one of the world’s fashion centers. Omotesando, one of the main streets, has been compared to Paris’s Champs-Elysees, with Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Prada recently setting up shop.

The district's other main drag, Takesh*ta Street, is the focal point for gatherings every Sunday by Japanese youth dressed in the many different styles of Harajuku culture. These styles constantly change; as some are abandoned, others evolve and many are often combined. But these are some of the more popular and enduring styles you may see on any given Sunday

the Harajuku Style

Harajuku style is a mix of all the well-known Japanese sub-styles, for example Sweet lo**ta, Gothic lo**ta, Visual kei, Cosplay, Decora, Gyaru, cutesy fairy kei and punk rock clothing .

Traditional Japanese garments like kimonos and wooden sandals have been infused into the style since the beginning.

Secondhand or retro and vintage clothes are also great to mix up your look. Customized or self-made items are great. Pick what you please and mix everything together. In Harajuku style, more is more, so layering up lots of clothes is fine. In Harajuku, you must be creative and dress exactly as you wish, not shying away from your imagination.

UNDERCOVER

Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER is probably the epitome of Japanese streetwear. For nearly 30 years, the designer’s distinct visual perspective has been influencing design to where contemporary fashion stands today, and early UNDERCOVER designs are now some of the most coveted and sought-after pieces for collectors.

The aesthetic of this Japanese clothing brand is best explained by its own motto: "We make noise, not clothes." UNDERCOVER is about disruption, subversion, and rebellion, blending pop culture iconography with punk, bo***ge, goth, and post-modern aesthetics to create the quintessential “punk” streetwear brand.

Japanese Street Fashion 2017

It’s been over a year since our Japanese Street Fashion 2016 article. Considering the speed at which trends, brands, shops, and people come and go in the Japanese street fashion scene, an update is past due.

Harajuku — Tokyo’s one-of-a-kind youth culture neighborhood — retains its long-held title as the center of Japan’s street fashion scene in 2017. There are plenty of other hip/trendy areas in Tokyo and Osaka, but Harajuku remains the leading indicator of Japanese street fashion’s overall health and direction. Trends, brands, personalities, and shops get noticed here first — then spread outward.
