There’s just something about paint on my hands that makes me happy. ❤️

To some people, this probably looks like a mess. To me, it looks like I’ve had a good day.

Paint on my fingers means I’ve been creating. I’ve been playing with colors, trying ideas, making mistakes, changing my mind, and turning ordinary pieces of wood into something that feels special.

Creating has always been more than just making things for me. It’s one of those places where my mind gets quiet and I can simply enjoy what I’m doing. No need for perfection. Just me, some paint, a project in front of me, and probably a bigger mess than I intended. 😂

So yes, these hands desperately need a good scrubbing.

But they also make me very, very happy. ❤️🎨

I think I’ll keep the paint-stained hands.

This is what I’ve been working on for the last few weeks! ❤️

What started out as a whole bunch of rough-cut wood blocks, paint, paper, ink, and a LOT of little sticky notes has slowly turned into this collection of rustic little pieces of art.

I’ve spent the last few weeks drawing, painting, distressing, adding details, sealing, and basically making a giant mess in the process. 😂

It’s been so much fun watching these go from this to that!

I thought I’d share the before-and-after because sometimes you don’t realize just how much work goes into each little piece until you see where it started.

I’m really loving how they’re turning out. 🥰

Which finished one is your favorite?

A new little collection has arrived at Root & Relic — inspired by the cozy, old-house, garden-and-herbs charm and my love of Practical Magic and now the excitement of Practical Magic 2.

Each 3.5" wood block features a favorite phrase inspired by the movie, paired with dark academia colors, vintage botanicals, antique keys, moons, herbs, and softly aged finishes.

Choose from:

• Throw a Little Salt Over Your Left Shoulder
• Grow Rosemary by the Garden Gate
• Plant a Little Lavender for Luck
• Fall in Love Whenever You Can

Each one is finished in a different coordinating color so they look beautiful together without feeling too matchy.

Some pieces don’t just decorate a home…they carry a history. 🤎

This stoneware jug has been around for nearly 100 years. Just imagine the hands that carried it, the farmhouse shelf it may have rested on, or the stories it could tell if it could talk.

These sturdy jugs were everyday workhorses in homes, often used for storing vinegar, syrup, molasses, cider, or homemade spirits. They weren’t made to be decorative…they were made to be useful. That’s exactly what makes them so beautiful today.

I love giving pieces like this a second chapter. Whether it sits on a kitchen shelf, on a primitive cupboard, beside a fireplace, or becomes part of a seasonal display, it adds the kind of warmth that simply can’t be bought new.

Old things have a way of making a house feel like a home.

If this jug could tell one story from the last 100 years, what do you think it would be?

The best finds are the ones that make you stop and think, “What else could this become?” 🤎

These little planters are far too charming to tuck away simply because they aren’t holding flowers. Around the house, they can become catchalls for everyday things—coffee supplies, guest soaps, wooden utensils, paintbrushes, pens, or even a small collection of favorite treasures.

I love mixing pieces from the past and present together and using them in ways that feel both pretty and practical. There are no rules when it comes to decorating. Give an piece a purpose that works for you, and let it tell a new story in your home.

These planters are available. See something you like? Comment under the photo.
