In the daily walk, we often get stuck between "I have to do this" and "God has to do this." A helpful way to look at it is through the lens of a sailboat:

​The Wind: This is the Holy Spirit. You can’t create the wind, control it, or earn it. It is pure gift.

​The Sail: This is your trust. Hoisting the sail is your job. It’s an act of the will that says, "I am ready for You to move me."

​The Rudder: This is your effort. You still have to steer and make choices, but you aren't the one providing the momentum.

​If you try to row the boat across the ocean (pure effort), you’ll burn out. If you just sit in the boat with the sails down (pure passivity), you’ll drift. Trusting Him more means making sure your sails are high and wide, catching the "wind" of His grace.

Trusting Him more usually starts with the radical belief that He is actually more committed to your transformation than you are. You are simply agreeing to let Him do the work.
