I’ve been following this for weeks. The demand for electric car batteries and smaller electronic devices, has increased global demand for Lithium. We now have Canadian based investment groups pouring big money into open pit mining in Nevada. I don’t know how the BLM, that mages the lans, is allowing it. It’s all clearly for profit and is steaming rolling environmental on cultural concerns in our remaining pieces of wilderness. The Lithium mine at Thacker Pass, right on the Oregon Border, where I go wilderness exploring, it a total foreign power move. Exactly the same is happening at new gold mine near Cero Gordo, right next to Death Valley National Park. These are real things to be aware of. Rare earth metals demand is growing because of things like smart devices, new iPhones every year and especially Tesla cars. You might think you are being smart but you always have to sig deeper. Foreign investment open pit mining is coming to our sacred wilderness areas. These mines can never return the land back after they are done. Habitat, flora and fauna, sacred tribal historical sites and publicly owned federal BLM land is on the chopping block for supposedly “green” revolution. You always have to follow the money. It’s never as “green” as you might believe. These coming open pit mines are not going to benefit you and I, they will generate environmental destruction and make foreign investors and some politicians a lot of money.
A Nevada rancher suing to block construction of the largest lithium mine in the U.S. trivializes potential harm to the environment near the Oregon line.
