At The Nest we plan to support, lift up, and lend a hand to our neighbors and friends in P-Town.
Our first mission is to help a fellow neighbor who has fallen on hard times.
For those of you who don't know Alison and Randy Jackson's home was struck by lightning during last week's storm. Their home has been deemed unlivable and they are looking for a new place to call home.
I have never met Randy but to hear that he was just feet away from losing it all hurt my heart so bad. Thankfully everyone is okay.
I do know Alison Jackson, a teacher at our elementary school. What I can tell you is she is a teacher my oldest daughter still talks about and enjoys visiting with after having her for 5th grade math last year (and that's saying something because she hates math.) I love the way she is able to banter with the students and have fun but is also firm and holds our children accountable for their actions. I've been told stories of multiple ways she offered guidance to my daughter in her middle school journey, and I don't think I have ever heard another group of 11 year olds sing an OutKast song (you know it... I'm sorry Ms. Jackson) so loudly and proudly and often as they do. My middle child was bummed when she didn't get her this year for 3rd grade but was so excited to be picked for her UIL team because she wants to know her like her sister knows her.
As a mom this makes me proud to have her as a role model for my children, as a role model for this town. She always shows up, she always helps out (seriously... She was working concessions the following day.) I truly hope we can show up for them. So let's rally around this family as a store, as a school, as a town and as a family. We are all Cardinals after all.
For the Entire month of November 5% of all RED RIVER CHICKS merchandise sold at The Nest will be donated to this family. There will also be a cash donation box and Alison's Venmo at the register to donate.
