Call For Entries...

I heard that if you don’t act on an idea within five minutes of having it, you’ll never do it. Well, here’s my idea and I’m acting on it... I’m calling on those that have met the last year with a creative response. Visual artists, culinary artists, musicians, dancers, craftspeople, writers, anyone using a creative outlet to manage your days.

I’d like to feature you, your work and your story. Currently, I am organizing a questionnaire (or rather a framework of questions) meant to guide your story in key areas I’m observing. (What do you do, why are you doing it and how does it effect you or others, especially with the impact of the pandemic?) All data will be compiled in book form with links for those endeavors that need audio or video support. If there’s only a small response, then a pamphlet it shall be. If there’s a large response, then it could grown in to an online community.

I’m open to whatever this spontaneous project brings. I’ve used this last year noticing so many responses to our pandemic situation. Many emotions, perspectives and ways of navigating through the turbulent times. I’m interested in what we turn to for comfort or expression or encouragement or whatever. I’m interested in what you need to make it in to the next hour. I’m interested in listening to your story and not judging it from my perspective, but to celebrate how we all have a way of making choices that ultimately bring us in to some sort of space of comfort. What does that look like for you? Can you tell me about it in photos and words?

If you’re interested in being a part of this or contributing in some way, please inquire and I will send you some of the general requirements to submit your work and story. Since I have no idea what’s to become of this, I’m just putting out there that things can evolve. I appreciate your interest, your participation and any helpful input you may have. Thank you!

Not all moments are picture worthy. We get ready for our day, perhaps feed our family or drive to the post office. Most of us never take photos in the grocery store line. Posted pics become a space to record our very best flashy selves. Graduation, looking good selfies, flawless projects, and so on.

I hemmed a dress today in my sweats. There was nothing to photograph. There was a deadline and I was in task mode. Then, as my hands moved, I started thinking that these picture “unworthy” moments are who we are. I’m not proud of every moment and choice in my life, but I’m not talking about that. More of the day to day actions. They define us more than the WOW moments in our camera roll, more than our pretty selves we choose to show the world.

As I sewed my last stitch and straightened the gown on the hanger, my daughter squealed with delight at her prom dress that now fits her shorter frame. I knew that THIS is the work that will be remembered. THIS is who I always want to be.

What everyday moments define you? What seemingly insignificant actions are truly your song and contribution to this Earth? And please share those very worthy photos or, better yet, put that camera away and allow us to create a picture in our own minds as you tell your story.

Today was mine to do as I pleased. I chose to core spin Wagner’s hair in to art yarn. He’s a Schnoodle. He’s loving, kind and totally insane. I think the result represents him well.
