🪶 Native American Heritage Day is observed today and every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It is an opportunity to recognize and honor the rich traditions, history, and contributions of the indigenous communities across the United States. Native Americans have profoundly shaped the nation’s history and culture, contributing innovations in agriculture, medicine, governance, art, and more. Heritage Day allows us to honor these contributions while reflecting on the resilience and strength of Native communities in the face of adversity.

🪶 Learn About Native History and Culture:
Explore the rich history and traditions of Native American tribes through books, documentaries, podcasts, or online resources. Delve into the diversity of Indigenous languages, customs, and art forms.

🧢🎨 Support Native Businesses and Artists:
Purchase from Native-owned businesses or support Native artisans. Whether it’s clothing, jewelry, photography, or artwork, these items often carry deep cultural significance and help sustain Indigenous communities.

💃🏽 Attend Local or Virtual Events:
Many organizations and communities host events such as storytelling sessions, dance performances, or educational talks. Check local indigenous community pages for opportunities to engage.

📖 Visit a Museum or Cultural Center:
Spend the day at a museum or cultural center that highlights Native American history and artifacts. Many facilities offer exhibits that deepen understanding of Indigenous contributions to society.

🏞️ Reflect on Land Acknowledgement:
Take time to learn about the Indigenous peoples who originally inhabited the land where you live. Acknowledging this history is a meaningful way to connect with the ongoing presence and rights of Native communities.

This Native American Heritage Day, let’s not only take the time to honor the stories, traditions, and enduring resilience of Native peoples but also show gratitude for the good work and progress we have all made together.

Pesa Mu - Thank You 🤘

🇺🇸🪶 On this Veterans Day, we honor and remember all those who have served in our nation’s armed forces, recognizing their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. Among them, we especially acknowledge the vital contributions of Native American veterans, whose bravery has shaped the course of history.

Native American service members have served in every major conflict, from World War I to the present day, in higher numbers per capita than any other ethnic group. Their dedication to their country, while balancing the complexities of their unique cultural heritage, is a testament to their strength, resilience, and loyalty.

Many Native American veterans fought in combat while preserving the traditions and values of their communities. Their stories are ones of heroism, perseverance, and patriotism, and they serve as an inspiring reminder of the diverse backgrounds that make up the fabric of our nation.

Today, let us reflect on the sacrifices made by all veterans, Native and non-Native alike, and give thanks for their service. We owe them a debt of gratitude, not only on Veterans Day but every day.

🪶 November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Indigenous peoples throughout the United States. This month serves as an opportunity to honor the diverse tribes and communities, each with their own unique traditions, languages, and perspectives.

Throughout history, we have faced immense challenges, yet we have shown remarkable resilience and strength. This month encourages us to learn about contributions to art, science, agriculture, and civil rights, as well as to reflect on the ongoing issues we face today.

Engaging with Native American heritage can involve attending local events, supporting Indigenous artists and businesses, and educating ourselves about their histories and contemporary issues. It’s a chance for all of us to acknowledge the past and work toward a future that respects and uplifts Native voices and communities.
