🤩🥳🥳On Sunday June 5th 2022, history was made in City of Rochester, NY - Mayor's Office
where the city held its first Latin Pride Day Festival
at The International Plaza on North Clinton Ave!
Children and adults alike shared in an afternoon filled with
plenty of dancing, a Zumbathon, food, entertainment, and smiles.
Their phone screens lit up as many recorded performances
by Rochester’s Latin Drag Royalty (tagged below)
Nicole Conde was crowned the first ever Miss Latinx Pride (2022).
She spent most of the day engaging with the community and
chatting with children about having self-esteem and just being themselves.
In another first:
Eva Flow was crowned Rochester’s first Community Queen (2022),
a title created and inspired by the vast amount
of work she does throughout the community.
Local drag queens and fashion designers Luci & Dona, whose couture pieces
were featured on RuPaul's Drag Race and American Idol also attended.
Luci + Dona were able to find the brick they sponsored in the fundraising of the building of
La Plaza Internacional, performing on the same stage they helped create in the Clinton Avenue Community.
They Spoke on the importance of the community joining together!
The same sentiment Benny J LopezdeVictoria , the event organizer, mirrored by stating: "Life isn’t about finding yourself, but creating yourself. Let’s create memories. Let’s build ourselves together!"
There were various local vendors and healthcare groups as well.
A few out of the many are listed below. If we missed any
please tag, comment, and share!
It takes a village!
All in all, the day was a new vision of hope for a community that is typically ravaged
by poverty and violence, and has recently been plagued by the COVID-19 pandemic.
