The idea for his first children’s book was born during countless bedtime storytelling sessions with his son. As his little one drifted off to sleep, Oleksiy would often hear his wife call out from the next room, “Keep going!” — eager to listen to what happened next. Those cozy family moments — and a loving nudge from his wife — blossomed into a magical tale, now brought to life in this book.

The Most Meaningful Moment

When the first printed copy of the book arrived, I gave it to my son, the one who inspired every word of this story. He flipped through the pages with wide eyes and said:
“The illustrations look exactly like they did in my head when you told me the story!”

That made me smile. But the most touching moment, the real reward, came a little later, when he looked up and said,
“Wait… they’re real now? Other kids can read about Paul, Chloe, and Max, too?”

That moment of realizing that the characters we had dreamed up together were now living in a real book for others to enjoy was special for both of us.

To make things even more special, during the last week of school, my son’s amazing teacher read the story to his whole class. She told me the kids were completely drawn in, and I’m hoping to share her video review as the next post!

Meet the Heroes of the Story

At the heart of this tale are three siblings. Paul and Chloe discover that their older brother, Max, has mysteriously disappeared — and it turns out a magical nightlight is behind it. Using the nightlight, they are transported to the World of Dreams to search for him.

But there’s a twist: once they arrive, they turn into cats!

In this dreamworld, anything is possible — from talking animals to galaxies ruled by mysterious grannies. Each child brings their own strengths to the adventure:

🐾 Chloe is clever and kind,
🐾 and Max… well, Max surprised everyone by vanishing first!

Bringing the Story to Life Through Illustrations

When I thought back to my own childhood, I remembered how important it was for a children's book to have pictures on every page. That sense of wonder, of seeing the story come alive through art — I wanted to recreate that for my son, and for other children too.

So I took the illustrations seriously. I began searching for an artist who could capture the world I imagined while telling this bedtime story. And I found him… all the way in Brazil.

Otávio Valões is a wonderful illustrator, and together we brought this story to life — page by page, detail by detail. I’m incredibly grateful for his talent and heart.

I hope your children will love the illustrations as much as we loved creating them.

How the Idea for the Story Was Born.

Like many parents, I used to tell my son bedtime stories, hoping they would bring him sweet, cheerful dreams. Some stories were told just once, while others were told 10 or even 20 times. Eventually, I began inventing my own tales, creating new adventures just for him.

Telling these stories became our special nightly ritual. And even after our son had drifted off to sleep, my wife would turn to me and ask, “So, what happens next?” I’d smile and reply, “You’ll find out tomorrow :)”

Over time, my stories grew with new characters, unexpected twists, and exciting journeys. One evening, my wonderful wife suggested I bring these stories to life on paper. And that’s how the idea of writing a children's book was born.
