Part III - boot camp was a wild ride but I graduated at the end of February. My mom and my kids made it through the 10-12 hour days and so did I! Since then I’ve been learning more skills, and applying to software engineering roles. I did not anticipate how fun it would be to code, or how empowering it would feel to find and fix a technical issue, or to be able to navigate code and know what’s going on. I still have a lot to learn but I’m excited to be where I am.

So, what about Frances M? Making clothes for women, and especially pregnant women makes my heart happy. At this point though, doing another run of jumpsuits seems far away. I still feel like I need to focus on software engineering to level up. I’d love to come back to this project, but right now I need time with kids and a little unstructured time to run, relax, and see friends.

Thank you for being on this journey with me!!! Seeing you in Frances M is one of my life highlights and a dream come true.

The sale will end today at 1pm PST

Part II - At first I took free online classes. I started out with Python (coding language). I talked to other moms who had made career shifts into coding. I started to feel a little bit of the thrill that comes with starting something new and I also felt like the road ahead was impossibly complex and long. As I got use to thinking in true false statements and left behind nuance for clear and concise logic - you should never read between the lines with code - I couldn’t imagine I’d ever be able to build something useful to the world. I would tell that it felt like I was at sea level and I needed to climb Mount Everest. He calmly reminded everyday that I could do it and I should trust the process.

I decided to apply to (message me if you want more details on choosing them). I took their initial reading comprehension and basic logic tests after Luca had gone to sleep and Colin wasn’t home. Luca woke up in the middle of the timed test. I hopped up, scooped his 8 month old body into my arms and finished the exam with him nursing on my lap.

I wanted to do 30 minutes a day or a week on Frances M., but I didn’t feel like I had the capacity while figuring out how to climb Everest.

To be continued tomorrow - what’s coming with .mama and where I am now - on the last day of the 60% off sale!

Part I of what’s happening behind the scenes:

I was driving in the car and the peaceful thought, “it’s ok to make a change. Your kids will thrive, and you will find your purpose” softly landed on my conscious mind like a feather floating down from heaven. I had started Frances M. just 6 months before and I was deep in the throws of deciding to make a big switch into software engineering(!!). I didn’t want to give up on my apparel dream. It felt like throwing up the white flag to covid and to learning how to market my products (selling stuff if effing hard! Even when you believe in your product!). But I had the unique opportunity to explore software engineering and have my mom become our nanny. I loved so many things about how I was raised and felt no anxiety leaving my kids with their grandma. Exhale. And so I quietly stopped working on Frances M. and turned my focus to learning how to code.
