For too long, I believed I needed to selflessly sacrifice my peace and happiness for the needs of others.
What I’ve learned is that when my inner child is crushed, my happiness gone and my peace stolen, I am not living my best life for myself nor others. I soar and make magic happen when I am in pursuit of those things that set my soul on fire and when I am purposeful in protecting my peace.
You don’t ever need to feel guilty for saying “no”, for setting boundaries, or for not doing what is expected of you.
We, as humans, are our best selves when we are at peace, filled with joy and contentment, and making the best choices for ourselves and our families.
We live in a society that values busyness. Many of us are part of church culture’s that value volunteers and working for free. Many work for businesses that constantly ask for work off the clock.
This is your permission to say NO (and let that be a full sentence).
You no longer have to give in to the pressure to go to the family reunion where your abusive uncle will be. You no longer have to stay after work to finish extra tasks unless you want to - you can tell your supervisor that you do not work off the clock (including taking work calls on the weekend). You no longer have to work yourself to death at your church because there is a lack of volunteers.
Please stop sacrificing yourself at the expense of yourself. Do what you can and say no to the rest.
If you are not living your best life, those in your life are also influenced. Those in your sphere will be affected by your stress, your exhaustion.
Remember, you are no good to anyone stressed out, overwhelmed, or frustrated.
Chase what edifies your heart, lights up your soul, and feeds your needs and desire.
You are worth it.
