Gotta take the good with the bad! (Yes it’s a long post)
Good news: Yall are looking at one of the latest FashionDesign school graduates . My major (Bachelors Degrees) was called Apparel Industry Management which is a mixture of fashion design, business and marketing. The school only does a walking ceremony once a year, and the ceremony will be next June, as from what I am hearing at the moment. I was not able to attain the super high GPA of 4.0 that I wanted, but I will tell you what my GPA landed me…….
Bad news : After next year FIDM will no longer be a thing. Yes, I will no longer have an alumni. The FashionDesign portion on my school was brought out by Arizona State University. The business side of the school is under contractual agreements to be purchased by a major international business school by the name of SKEMA. If you are from LA or California, and know of FIDM, this is a bit of a sting, because FIDM has been around for 50+ years and is known as the best in the west in regards to FashionDesign school. Its like what FIT is to New York, but our own version of it here in California, and to hear that it will no longer be a thing, because it is being purchased, and divided amongst two other institutions, is like smh!
Better news : My reputation proceeds myself throughout that school. Most people know to look for the loudest guy with the best personality and he’s more than likely wearing a bowtie lol. Though I did not get the really high GPA that I wanted it, I did get a high enough GPA to be considered, and invited, and ACCEPTED to acquire my MBA (Masters in Business Administration). It will take me about a year due to it still being a private school and heavily accelerated and it will currently start with FIDM, but to be later, consumed by SKEMA.
( BRUH THAT WILL BE 3 SEPERATE DEGREES IN 3 YEARS) if I go through with it.
Though, a lot of people do not like the sound of it, there are a lot of perks that are being told to those of us that are willing to transition. My degree will say FIDM /SKEMA on it and because this is originally an internationally based school, with them acquiring a location here in the US, it allows for us US students to study abroad in all of their other locations, which includes Brazil, China, France, South Africa, as well as Canada.
And that’s of course, if I choose to proceed, and do that. Another option I have been recently, thinking of, suggested by multiples of my professors is, because of my poise, and the way that I present myself just regularly as well as present myself during presentations and business homework, a lot of them have asked what I thought about pursuing law . Now what most people don’t know is that because of my previous marital situation, I initially became interested in law during my divorce. Even in the military, you could probably still ask me some naval instructions, and I could spit them out like the back of my hands. I have always been passionate about learning the laws of the land. I believe my people have been taken advantage of, yes some of that to their fault because they choose to pick up a book and read and further educate themselves.
Anyways, about five or six different professors from the school, suggested that I get my JD from law school with a focus on intellectual property. Especially because I have a FashionDesign background, with the way things are moving in all fields, growing more digital age and social media, intellectual property Law is highly sought after and highly paid due to the amount of lawsuits for copyright infringement and trademark cases.
And of course, there is always me chasing the 💰 bag and going back to shooting x-rays 😂
I wonder what I would do?! Which ever I choose, I’m sure you will all see it on social media someway or another lol..
Special Thanks, to all of the family members friends, and loved ones who have supported me through not only this journey, even my transition from the military into this journey, and as well as my next chapter, whichever option that may be. There are several names for me to list but they know who they are. I would not be able to do what I am doing without them or be in the place that I am without them today. Thank you and I love you..
