📢 This *might* be my final run of the bamboo ARAW earrings! Here’s why.

🇵🇭 Back in 2018, I was inspired to adorn myself with pieces that represented Filipino culture. Being mixed race, I’ve found I rarely am recognized as Filipina. I felt that if I wore signifiers of my culture, it might spark conversation and connection. At that time, an internet/Etsy search yielded few results for Filipino earrings. Soon after I felt called to start this creative business and set out to create an earring featuring the iconic araw // sun emblazoned on our flag.

⏩ Fast-forward to 3 years later and I am astounded to see so many other Filipina creatives taking the concept in new directions! Instead of feeling competition and a wounded ego, I feel extremely grateful and like a load has been lifted -I now feel liberated to dream up new ideas & designs! It truly feels as if we are living through a renaissance of Filipino-inspired goods right now, where we are leveling up together as kapwa in community. ✨

Here are just a few brands with ARAW designs I’ve been wowed by -please comment below your favorites so we can uplift and inspire each other! .earhugs

Special Salamat to the sisterhood of which encourages a community of support vs competition, of which I’ve been grateful to participate in 💖

Only 1 week left to place your pre-orders before I close up shop for the holidays! I decided to wrap up sales early this year in order to:
(1) 🧠 prioritize my mental health
(2) 💝 give loved ones my full attention during the holiday season and not be focused on fulfilling orders
(3) 📦 plan ahead for potential shipping delays

Salamat // thank you for your understanding & support! Oh and btw, the Laban earrings featured here are discounted for a limited time 🤑

To be real with y’all, I spent most of this year pretty withdrawn (read: trying not to die 😷) and deprived of any creative energy (read: imposter syndrome 😩) to put towards this labor of love, which is why I'll only have the shop open for two weeks.

🙏🏼 If you're able to support small businesses like mine this holiday season, I am super grateful, but also understand if you need to pass. Thanks for being interested enough to follow my journey -your support is one of the things that kept me going this year. ❤

Big appreciation for for this 📸 photoshoot, for hairstyling (& trimming & coloring 🥰) and for connecting us all at

👋🏽 Hiii it’s been a minute…I took most of this year to reset and work on myself, but wanted to open the shop back up for the holidays.

🎁 Now accepting orders for the next 13 days (📧 subscribers got a head start) & shop will close again after 11/30.

🎄All shop items are pre-orders and will ship by December 8th -a full week before USPS' recommended holiday cutoff dates.

12/12/2020

It’s your last chance to order from my shop in 2020 y’all! I will stop accepting orders by midnight this Sunday, December 13th. I’ll then be taking a break from selling until summer of 2021 -but I’ve got big plans for new goods next year which is why I need a nice long break 😁

I haven’t stopped to count how many orders I’ve mailed out this year but know these have been my best months yet! I’m very grateful for all your support and love seeing how you’re wearing my designs, please keep on tagging and sharing 🙏🏼💞

LABAN // RESIST // FIGHT
〰️
It was in November of 2016 that I became acutely aware of my duty to represent Filipino heritage. I felt solemn after the the crushing results of the election sunk in, intuitively knowing what the next 4 years would bring. For the first Women's March in January 2017, I was inspired to craft a sign in Tagalog (swipe to see it). While marching, I saw a glimmer of hope and pride in the eyes of fellow Filipinx resistors who immediately recognized our language being represented -which added to the invigorating feeling that this historic movement was for us, too. In the months following, I threw myself into community organizing and found a new will to fight for justice. That energy, and a desire to continue connecting to my roots helped me to sprout the seed that grew into PILIPINX AKO. This is the energy I'll hold with me as I cast my ballot this time around. I hope my creative works help to cultivate that energy for you, too.

LABAN in Tagalog translates to RESIST and FIGHT in English. Earrings laser-cut from real wool with hypoallergenic ear wires. *In order to reduce strain on USPS prior to the 2020 election all orders will be shipped AFTER November 4th.* . .

Ano ang kwento mo // what is your story?
〰️
Today is my birthday. 30 years of existence as an act of resistance. A bridge between cultures; a chameleon that blends into any surrounding, bearing the weight of unspoken trauma. Daughter of an immigrant, I translate hearts & minds while connecting our collective stories. I speak the language of the oppressor yet resist assimilation and loss of self. Kultura connects us to each other (kapwa) and to the Earth I pledge to defend. I am the one I've been waiting for. Are you? . .
1st photo taken in the Philippines during my homecoming visit at 5 years. This return trip shaped the trajectory of my life, my understanding of privilege and my duty to uplift. I still remember taking baths in my mama's barangay with a tabo and freshly pumped groundwater from the well; walking hand-in-hand with my pinsans to a sari-sari to buy candy. 2nd photo from my 3rd return trip on our pamilya's land in 2018, when the seed that is PILIPINX AKO borne within me began to sprout. 🌱

With the rapid halt to life as we knew it earlier this Spring, I found myself in deep reflection of how this small business could help those most vulnerable in the Philippines survive the pandemic. I learned of , an NGO that promotes good governance and ethical leadership in the Philippines, who was collecting donations to quickly procure desperately needed PPE and food packs for healthcare workers on the frontlines. I decided to donate 50% of profits from PILIPINX AKO sales, and it's been incredibly motivating to see our collective impact. To date we've donated $300 USD -swipe to see the total result of the donation drive. Going forward, I'll continue to donate 15% of profits, to make this a sustainable contribution part of our business model. Thank you to all our customers who have purchased from the shop thus far -we were able to donate because of your support! 💛 Please comment or DM if you know of other mutual aid groups in the Philippines we should consider for future donations! @ San Francisco, California
