Seeds 'n Stitches

Seeds 'n Stitches Hello friend! Hello and a hearty welcome to you! My name is Dalah (pronounced like "Day-luh" πŸ˜†). I am the oldest of 13 kids. We have always dreamed of owning land.

We are a Sonoma County small business offering Veggie & Flower plants, fresh cut-to-order flower arrangements, and in the winter we offer knitted & crocheted items for sale, plus design beautiful digital patterns for other makers out there! Now a mother to 4 of my own, I learned to crochet at 8 years old. (Thanks Mama!) I've picked it up on and off through the years, but got quite immersed in it a

gain in 2020 (you know, lockdowns and all πŸ˜’). I also recently picked up knitting and its safe to say I am obsessed. I am also an avid gardener, seed collector, budget nerd, and currently live in my beloved Sonoma County, California. I have always enjoyed fiber arts but now it is a huge passion of mine. So in 2021 I officially launched Seeds 'n Stitches. I specialize in high quality and luxury finished items that are ready to ship, and I am open for custom orders (just send me a message and we can get started designing!) I will eventually also have crochet patterns available for sale too for the other makers out there! I started this business in part because I don't have a house of my own yet to make into a home. (More on that below!) And I realized that was something I wanted to help others accomplish. My mission is to make cozy, fun, functional and beautiful things for others to wear and wrap up in, as well as little home decor items to help your home become a haven and an escape from the crazy world outside your door. If you need something warm, cozy, fun soft and functional, I've got ya covered! (No pun intended πŸ˜†)

More on that backstory:

We are currently renting a couple rooms in my mother in law's suburban house, with her. The original plan was to just stay here for 6 months to a year to save up money for a down payment on some land and put a modular home on it. I long to grow most (if not all!) of our own good healthy food, (and ALL the flowery things I love!), raise animals, have space for our children to run wild and free in the fresh air... and a house that I can finally make into a home of our own. We were just about ready to make that leap and then... COVID-19 happened. My husband was in the local Carpenter's Union and was instantly furloughed. We took it one day at a time... Devestated that our future had been snatched right out of our grasp, but hopeful and determined everything would be alright. The days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months. Eventually I dug out my old hooks and yarn. Then, it didn't take long for me to realize while crocheting one day... "Hey, maybe I could turn this into a business!"

Seeds 'n Stitches was born out of deferred hope, sadness, and amidst heavy dissapointment. Its an idea that wouldn't have happened if the hard parts of 2020 hadn't. It is beauty for ashes. So here we are! Lots of 5am mornings, lots of coffee, and a dream that scares the heck outta me! I always did love a good challenge though, so I am digging in with all my heart. And who knows, maybe this business will one day open the door to land, a homestead and a home of my own to raise my babies in. And if THAT happens, I'll be able to offer seeds, plants and other "homesteady" things 😊

Time goes by whether you've "arrived" yet, or not. 2020 taught me that my kids only have one childhood, and while these aren't the ideal circumstances for me to "make a life" for us here; life happens day by day, wherever you are, whether you "make it" or not! So sieze the day, and do the best you can with what you have been given. Because we only have here and now. "THESE ARE the good 'ole days!"

I had stopped praying for a home of our own and maybe even a bit of land for a long time. I decided to just be thankful for what I have and do everything I can here with zeal.

But its important not to cross the line from being thankful to actually being in a state of compromising, abandoning goals, and giving up hope. To stop trying.

Day 4 of the is "Inspiration"

What inspires me most in fiber arts is colorscapes in creation.
There are times that I marvel at the Sunrise and Sunset skies in the heat of summer and plead with my mind not to forget the dazzling shades that are expertly blended together and make my spirit sing (sometimes literally 😏)

Then there are the colors in flowers. The colors in trees. Even the calm neutrals of winter. These provide a slow, restful feeling that I have been chasing this season. Resting in these colors is like the gentle hum of a mother lulling her baby to sleep.

Textures and visual patterns occasionally inspire me as well. Take the intricate patterns in the center of a sunflower, for instance. Perfectly fitted spirals of stamens with unformed seeds beneath them. "I should make something like that!" I'll think to myself.

Hopefully, I haven't over-dramatized your socks off 😝 but it is really the truth of how inspiration hits. Sometimes, I hide just how impactful creation, gardens, and landscapes are to me, for fear of looking silly or "weird." Beautiful places and sights are what inspire me the most to create something. I simply *must* find all the colors!

Alright, prompt #1 in the is a simple "Hi!" So... hello!

Most of you know I'm Dalah! I'm the oldest of the Vargas 13-kid family, and my husband Daniel and I have 4 kiddos of our own that I homeschool in beautiful Sonoma County, California. I serve the one true God. Eschatology is my jam!

In my spare time, I am a garden geek extraordinaire, and I knit + crochet in all the rest of the spare time πŸ˜… I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old, circa 1997. I taught myself knit in 2020 and I daresay I like it better for a lot of types of projects 🫣 oh I also can spin on a drop spindle!

Last year I added cut flower sales to my business, and never looked back! So you'll see a LOT of flower content on my page, as I am absolutely in love with micro flower farming

I also sell nursery plant starts spring through summer as part of my biz! Seeds will always have a place in my heart, they are here to stay! I find seed-starting to be highly rewarding. The dopamine hit that you get from the delayed gratification of growing plants from seeds is where it's at! πŸ‘Œ

I used to be a half and full marathon runner, and I am working on getting back into 5k shape at the moment. It's slow going, though, as I am newly focused on strength training this year. Lifting heavy usually has my legs cooked, and it's not good to run with jello legs πŸ™ƒ
Last year (2024) I had 3 back to back miscarriages. So holistic functional health is now at the top of my priority list from now on.
Well there ya go! That is me in a nutshell!
