"You'll miss it..."-Said, Mother of the Bride.

And- yes, this view, the morning commute, the smell of fresh baked bread from the Patisserie, the blue coffee hut on the West Lawn. This past month I take every break, every meal that's not raining by the lake because- ...

Paperwork in the park, walking the jetty to relieve stress or break from a frustrating or normal alteration-

I will appreciate the memory because the existence of the water isn't Nostalgia, it's presence.

June 28 we leave Skaneateles. Paint for the new space gets delivered on Monday and-

Alignment. Alterations.

Truly, what we can't make up: This weekend all of our Bride projects for the first half of wedding season leave for their aisles.

Next month we focus on resetting; getting our studio up and inviting Brides in for their fittings first, then in August we reopen Retail, because-

Naturally last year when our ceiling was caving in and mold was shutting us down all of our Brides for June into July who needed us in Skaneateles, got to meet us here. Retail, left us free without July weddings for the last two weeks of next month...something that felt curious back then and not just because we were under remediation unable to sell for this seasons July, ...and-

The second half of wedding season: All of our Brides in alterations find us more convenient in the Southern Tier because they live in Ithaca...

It all came apart, but on its own came together in such a way that One can't deny the invisible hands that help carry us towards Home when it's time, when we listen, and know how to be guided. -Joseph Campbell Taught It

She had followed me since she was 16 and when it was time to get her dress she came to me from Virginia. Of course I hand delivered her a veil there and then went on The Moonlite Monuments Tour through the DC Mall. -Clients Inspire, Patron Muse

This month we celebrate 15 years in business. 15 years. It took me two to develop the idea and its portfolio to showcase Gee June in NYC, another three years to get us to full time, add a year and a half to get us into our own standing retail location, one year to outgrow our starter space and then we moved towards growth -->Skaneateles. A street front location on Genesee and Jordan St., with a sign that our Ithaca alleyway didn't allow us. The sprinkles on top: In Skaneateles we'd have the ability/first dibs to take over 'The Jewler' who was retiring in a year. That was 2019. We needed 2000 square feet badly, so we packed up, moved in and got started. I purchased the product to get us ready for taking over The Jewler-->our growth, and then-Covid. But, still we thrived, masks off: We were ready to establish our system again, no more last minute wedding plans of 2020-'22, and then: Water Intrusion. A flood that took out our neighbors ceiling and would never stop causing us issues inside. I lost our in-progress art pieces, three years worth of fabric and materials for our collections and had to figure out how to keep it all going. The flood during Christmas of 2022 would be harder than covid. These last three years I had to be a Merchandiser most days and then we became Alteration Specialists over Designer's. I'd learn the Jewler had no plan to retire and have to figure out who we were without our ideas until we could afford them again. I'm still figuring that out, but after six months of being closed we're getting ready to move. I thought at 15 we'd throw a big party, the Skaneateles Ribbon Cutting covid didn't allow for, but instead we're pivoting: It'll be a Sweet 16 for us next year in a space large enough to hold us properly back in the city where we started: Ithaca with Friends and fellow Makers who are still there, the relationships we formed in our first ten years...in place, as if we never left :) -Odyssey

Lifting the veil:

On this day last year I'd quietly shutter Gee June's doors. Memorial Day weekend, one of our biggest Final Fit weekends before our June weddings, I would take what I understand now in hindsight were first steps at closing Gee June's retail in Skaneateles.

Something was off: Brides started coming in wearing masks, their bodies had recognized the symptoms; Mother of the Brides would ask me for details-'what happened to your ceiling?' They'd hear me cough, watch my rub my chest, lose my voice-apologize-sip some water, take deep breaths...and I'd explain that after three years of constant water intrusion and a lot of extra expenses our ceiling had finally given in, it was airing out awaiting to be sealed.

But. There was more to it. This weekend-last year I'd at the suggestion of our clients request mold tests. The short of it--> we'd undergo Remediation. It ended up being a long process wrapping up in August.

Air quality seemed decent for a few weeks, but by Labor Day mold was visible again. Columbus Day-spore blooms the size of Cafe tables were allover our basement. The left side of my face would go numb and I knew for certain: We were not staying. I had been sick for awhile and only at my Brides- their masks and concerns did I understand that mold sickness was a 'thing.'

I entered treatment for Mold Sickness on the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving. After six months- I'm doing better, I understand I'll probably 'feel like myself again' about August of this year-

And. August 2026: Gee June will be reopened, back where we started, Ithaca. When we announced our closure in Skaneateles, two of our past landlords reached out: 'How can we get you here?'...

Needless to say, I am humbled. It's been a rough year. Our ceiling collapsed April 26, 2025- it had been patched that January, but it wasn't a ceiling caving in as much as a Threshold moment, an invitation to Return Home.

We'll be announcing our opening and new location soon, for now- we need to finish packing so we may open slowly and gently. A lot of our inventory was lost and we open to rebuild. It's a good thing I grew up a Builders Daughter before a Designer. -Layne
