A rare image of a young immigrant me. As a kid, I always felt left out. I wasn't American and I wasn't "straight". I was different. I was "other". I desperately wanted to fit in. To feel "normal", whatever that means. The world around me told me I didn't belong and I believed it. I became an American citizen in 2014 after proving I was more American, more aware of it's history and governement...it's geography, than many American-born citizens.

As a photographer, I often lean into classic Americana...the American male archetype...everything I felt I wasn't, sometimes mixing these classic elements with those that don't quite fit in. I look for a quiet heroism in everyone. Regardless of who we are we have all, at some point, felt "othered", like we somehow didn't belong.

This is just a reminder that we ALL belong regardless of what those in power may claim.

We deserve to feel like our very own heroes.
