Behind the Seams: What’s a Gusset? ✂️

Sometimes a dress is just a little too snug, but that doesn't always mean starting over. A gusset is a fabric panel added into a seam to create extra room while helping the garment maintain its shape and comfort.

In this dress, I added a matching gusset to increase the fit and give the wearer a little more breathing room—an alteration many people don't realize is possible!

✨ Alterations aren't just about making garments smaller. Sometimes it's about creating the perfect fit by adding fabric where it's needed most.

🐾 Throwback to one of the very first product lines I dreamed up for Stitched by JB!

Before alterations became the focus of my business, I was creating handmade pet bandanas and collars. These handsome models were among my first supporters. ❤️

At the time, my audience was small and the pet line never really took off, but looking back, I still love these designs and the joy they brought.

I've been thinking about bringing pet bandanas back—especially with fun seasonal prints and custom options.

As a seamstress, sometimes it can feel like all I'm doing is just shortening a hem, taking in a dress, replacing a zipper, or making a garment fit a little better.

Then a customer sends a photo, shares their excitement, or tells me how confident they felt wearing something I altered.

That's when I'm reminded that this work is about so much more than clothing. It's about helping people feel comfortable, confident, and ready for life's special moments.
