Today, myself and another Postpartum Bliss doula-Hannah, are heading out for a prenatal visit with a family whose baby will be arriving via C-section next week 🤍

They’ve already set themselves up for support by booking 42 nights of overnight care with Postpartum Bliss, covered through their employer benefits using Carrot Fertility.
* If you’re pregnant, it’s worth checking your own benefits, a lot of families don’t realize postpartum doula support can be included!

We’ll also be bringing baby Rosie, our weighted, realistic newborn doll, so we can walk through basic newborn care in a hands-on way. This helps families feel more confident before baby is here. We’ll cover things like safe sleep, soothing, diapering, feeding basics, and what’s normal in those early newborn days.

During overnight support, our role is to take the weight off parents, especially during recovery. We care for baby throughout the night, responding to wake-ups, diaper changes, soothing, and feeds. If a parent is breastfeeding, we bring baby in to nurse and support mom with positioning, water, and snacks. If bottle feeding or pumping, we handle feeds and clean bottles and pump parts. We rest when baby rests, staying close so parents can truly sleep knowing their baby is being cared for.

Prenatal visits are where we tailor everything to the family, their preferences, their recovery needs, and what will help them feel most supported once they’re home.

The Postpartum Bliss team will be alongside this family throughout their postpartum and newborn journey, offering calm, consistent overnight care so they can focus on healing, bonding, and finding their rhythm as new parents.

💤 The Truth About Newborn Sleep & Feeding: What Expecting Parents Need to Know 💤

If you're expecting a baby, you’ve probably heard that newborns wake up a lot at night—but what does that actually look like? The first few weeks are intense, and many parents don’t realize just how exhausting newborn sleep and feeding really are.

🍼 What to Expect in the First Few Weeks:

➡️ Before your baby regains their birth weight, most doctors recommend waking them every 2-3 hours to eat—even overnight.

➡️ The timer starts at the beginning of the feed, not when baby finishes.

➡️ A full feed can take 45 minutes to an hour (or longer if baby is sleepy and needs encouragement).

➡️ Then comes burping, diaper changes, and soothing baby back to sleep, which can add another 15-30 minutes.

➡️ If you're pumping, factor in an extra 15-30 minutes for pumping, washing pump parts,and prepping bottles for the next feed.

➡️ By the time you get them settled, you may have only 45-90 minutes before the next feed starts.

This cycle repeats all day and all night—which means you’ll be running on broken sleep, getting just small naps in between.

😵‍💫 How to Prepare & What Helps:

✔️ Pause before picking baby up– Newborns are noisy sleepers! They grunt, wiggle, open their eyes a little and even whimper in their sleep. If they aren’t truly crying, they may settle on their own.

✔️ Keep night feedings calm and simple – Use dim lights, avoid talking too much, and help baby get back to sleep quickly.

✔️ Try changing their diaper before feeding – If baby tends to doze off while eating, changing their diaper first or halfway through the feeding can wake them up just enough to feed well.

✔️ Have extra bottles and pump parts ready – This way, you’re not constantly washing in the middle of the night. A small bin with prepped bottles and clean pump parts makes overnight feeds easier.

✔️ Use the right ni**le size for bottles – Many newborns do best with a slow-flow ni**le to mimic breastfeeding and prevent gulping too much air.

✔️ Practice pace feeding – If bottle-feeding, pace feeding helps control milk flow, mimics breastfeeding, and prevents overfeeding or tummy discomfort. Hold the bottle horizontally, allow pauses, and watch baby’s cues.

✔️ Plan for extra support – Whether it’s a partner, family member, or doula, having someone to take over for even a few hours can make a huge difference.

I did something for ME… and it was life-changing. ✨

I just got back from Tulum, where I stepped out of my comfort zone, embraced my body, and felt more confident than I have in years.

MOTHERHOOD CHANGES US, BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE TO ERASE US!

Our bodies should be celebrated, not mourned. They’ve carried life, endured challenges, and deserve to be honored—not hidden.

This trip lit a fire in me, and now I want to bring this experience to other moms who need it. I am wanting to host a *Mom’s Empowerment Retreat*—a chance for women in any stage of motherhood to rediscover themselves, feel confident in their skin, and step back into their power.

💛 And I want this to be **inclusive for ALL moms**—moms of little ones, moms of grown kids, moms of angel babies, and women who are on their own fertility journeys. If your body has carried you through the highs and lows of motherhood in any form, you *deserve to be celebrated.*

There’s a topic that doesn’t get discussed enough: postpartum intimacy and the pressure many birth parents feel to resume s*x before they’re ready. Whether it’s from societal expectations, self-imposed guilt, or even pressure from the non-birthing partner, this issue can deeply impact postpartum recovery.

Many birth parents aren’t ready for intimacy for weeks—or even months—due to physical healing, hormonal changes, exhaustion, or emotional adjustments. And that’s okay! Partners who offer emotional and physical support, without pressure or expectation, can greatly improve the postpartum experience and help rebuild intimacy over time.

Even if you feel fine, here’s why waiting is crucial:

🎉✨ Today, I’m celebrating my beautiful daughter Ava’s 7th birthday, and with it, I reflect on the journey that brought us here. Ava is my second child and the heart of my inspiration for starting **Postpartum Bliss**. 💕

When I was pregnant with Ava, I was a single mom raising my 5-year-old son, Michael. At 33 weeks, I developed preeclampsia and had to deliver Ava early. She was small, weighing just 3 lbs 11 oz, but she was strong. 🩷 She didn’t face major health complications—just needed time to grow. For that, I will always be grateful. 🙏

After a month in the NICU, Ava came home, but life didn’t slow down. My parents supported us by letting us live with them, which was a huge help. 🏡 However, I still craved deep emotional and physical care. I was navigating this exhausting, beautiful, and overwhelming season mostly on my own. 💔

I went back to work almost immediately as a nanny, (2 days after Ava's nicu discharge) taking her with me. Ava was by my side every day as I cared for five other children. It was chaos, to say the least—juggling the needs of my preemie, my kindergartener, and the children in my care while running on fumes. Some nights, I barely had the energy to keep going. I think I cried as much as Ava did. That first year was the hardest of my life, but it was also the strongest I’ve ever been. 💪✨

When I discovered the world of birth workers—especially **overnight postpartum doulas**—I felt an instant connection. I realized how life-changing it would have been to have someone there for me during those sleepless nights, someone to lighten the load so I could simply breathe and bond with my baby. That’s when I knew this was my calling. With the loving support of my amazing husband and family, I started my training and launched **Postpartum Bliss**. 💕

For the past two years, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside families as they navigate the postpartum period. It’s not just work—it’s a way to give back, inspired by my journey with Ava and Michael, and to provide families the support I wish I had. 💖
